The Blacklist - Season 3 Discussion Thread

^Exactly. She got very teary at the delivery (there's a story there) and they spent a lot of time together.

The Blacklist will never get rid of Lizzie (although I wish they would); the network isn't that brave.

Not to mention, Liz came off beyond idiotic in her fixation on the wedding when actual nukes seemed on the line. Having her disappear till the finale in a Red produced sleight of hand is more likely. It also lets Megan have her maternity leave from filming.

I don't think it was specifically "Red" produced. I think it looked a lot like one of Red's people made it happen, without him knowing---not yet, anyway.

I have to admit, this would've caught me completely by surprise, where it not for the fact one of my co-workers told me about it earlier today. Still not sure what to think, even after watching it, other than I agree that Mr. Kaplan is involved somehow - without Red's being aware of it.

She certainly looked dead though, didn' t she?

It could work if the whole thing was staged from the start and there was nothing wrong with Liz. Too many variables for the plan to succeed, but that's TV.

Whatever they do, Spader just isn't around enough for the show to hold great interest. Megan was OK when they weren't writing Liz like a dip (which was done all too often) but without her there's not much to care about on the 'Not Team Red' side. Other than Aram and Navabi, I have no use for the FBI/DC half of this show and Tom is just dull as dishwater at best.

I just watched the two-parter. The first episode wasn't great (really, you HAVE to get married TODAY, when there are nuclear weapons on the line, and then you guilt your co-workers into coming because it's not like they have anything better to do). I thought the second episode was much better. I believe that Reddington definitely believes Liz is dead, and so does Tom. However, I think it's definitely likely that Mr. Kaplan is hiding something. She was clearly affected by the whole ordeal and felt strongly that Red's presence was a detriment to Liz and the baby. I doubt it's the last we've seen of Liz. It also seems suspicious that I've seen interviews with Spader and others from the show regarding the death, but Boone has been silent.

Can there really be any doubt after Spader's performance that Liz is HIS daughter? Red came across as a man torn completely apart, and I can't believe he would display that same type of emotional depth is she was someone he had merely been watching over all these years, due to a sense of guilt about what happened to her parents.

Just my .02 worth on the matter.

:bolian:

Damn, I really did NOT see that coming. I wasn't sad or anything because the entire last ten minutes I'm waiting for the fake out. I'm pretty shocked it didn't come, but it's pretty clear to me Red's associates faked her death without telling Red so she could have a safe life (and so Megan Boone could have her maternity leave).

I'll always think that Lizzie is Red's symbolic daughter and nothing else. That doesn't lessen the emotional connection for him.

I understand what you're saying, but I think it goes waaaaaay beyond symbolic. I really think that Red and Mama Rostova had an affair, and Lizzie is the result. I could be wrong, but after what I saw, I'm convinced she's really his daughter.

Remember the episode where Lizzie wanted to pay for the little kid to go to college or something like that, and Red gave a speech about how you can watch over her for the rest of your life and do everything you can for her, and it'll never be enough to fill the hole inside your heart? To me, that was him describing his relationship to Lizzie.

What kind of show would America's most wanted turn himself in and offer his services but only if he gets to work with an unknown rookie FBI profile who was adopted, doesn't know who her birth parents are and is young enough to be his daughter... and no DNA test is done? Oh, right, this one. :p

Season five twist....
RED: "Elizabeth cannot be my daughter... because Tom is my son and I'm not from Oklahoma."

Tom being Red's son kinda makes sense. Ok, I just watched the episode and I thought it was actually pretty great...well for Blacklist anyway. James Spader is just a hell of an actor, he had me feeling bad for the "death" of Elizabeth, even though Megan Boone can't act her way out of a paper bag. I actually thought even Megan Boone was good in this episode, the last 10 minutes she acted more and showed more emotion then all the other episodes combined. While she is probably still alive, the Doctor used Doctoring to Doctor the death. However if I had my druthers, she'd be dead, Tom moves on to the other show, Ressler gets transferred to Anchorage Alaska for being the worst FBI agent and Red works directly with Harold Cooper, Samar and Aram.

And as we already knew, we've now seen that Spader can carry the entire show by himself. Great episode, was getting a very "Shining" vibe from the hotel. The truth about the girl was a bit of a trope, but handled well. I kept flip-flopping while watching the episode if they would have it turn out that way.

Spader is a hell of an actor and the beginning part of the episode was the strongest. I pretty much guest straight away that everything was going on in his head. However towards the middle of the episode it just became boring and very predictable. While it was nice to get conformation of a few facts (Red had to choose who to save) which could be discern from just watching the show. This episode went nowhere and felt like a let down.

^Pretty much my sentiments, as well. I guessed right away regarding the plot device, so it was not terribly interesting to watch. Most annoying of all is that we still didn't learn much at all.

Interesting tidbit: Sasha was played by Lotte Verbeek, who also played Mrs. Jarvis on "Agent Carter."
