CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

After everything, isn't Axanar pretty much like The Nazis? And no, I'm not saying Tobias must be antisemitic because he's German, that would be racist. Come on. I was just wondering what does he mean by "a very dark place". The Holocaust was a very dark place. Tobias needs to explain or differentiate his words carefully.

Awww - please don't go that route.
We at the Trek BBS have the higher ground, with a few exceptions sometimes, and we should stay classy. Please!
I'm also German, but NEVER IN MY LIFE that would mean, I'm antisemitic! NEVER. And the same goes for sure regarding Tobias.
I think we all should be careful with our wording, each and every one of us. As I said: We have the higher ground!

Greetings from Platjenwerbe, Germany

No, Axanar isn't like the Nazis.(Downfall videos aside) And since when is the phrase "a dark place" some sort of code for the Holocaust? It's obvious Tobias found the place dark because of the anti-Axanar posts.

OK. IIRC, a motion to dismiss extends the time to file an answer. Or am I wrong that an answer is still required at some point? Regardless, I can't imagine a motion to dismiss succeeding.

I wish I could actually read those documents as opposed to just the titles.
I've got most (it might be all) of the documents in blog posts - http://www.gandtshow.com/author/janet/

Download whatever you like; it's all a matter of public record and the documents have been paid for.

You really have no idea what you are talking about. If you have any sense of decency you'd apologize for suggesting something so horrible and drop this line of reasoning right now.

This. Remember, this is a fan film we are talking about. Nothing actually important. To compare them to Nazis is offensive to those who actually suffered under their rule.

:wtf:

I'm no fan of Axanar, but I'll take a wild guess that Tobias was referring to this particular thread where there are over 10k of anti Axanar posts and beyond that, a great deal of personal jabs against Peters and the producers. This thread is a shark feeding frenzy.

Most laid back shark feeding frenzy that I've ever seen.

Wow. Of all people, I never expected Tobias Richter to be such a willfully ignorant crybaby. Disappointment, man. Disappointment. Greg could not have been more clear (here or in that FB conversation). Much like Alec Peters, Tobias just wants to fall on his sword. I say let him. Greg set the record straight and even if Tobias tries to delete all Greg's comments, it'll always be here.

He's not a 'crybaby' per se - it seems to be he makes a portion his living off fanfilms (and I'm sure he was looking forward to getting another paycheck for 'Axanar'.) I'm sure he loves Trek too; but when you're getting PAID for it - IMO it sure seems there's move than just 'for the love of Trek' and Mr. Richter likes to claim (The hounding of the Star Trek: Titan shows that pretty clearly.)

I'm really surprised Tobias is really someone whom most of us see as a very talented top notch person. I thought he stayed above all of the petty arguments and helped out fan films regardless of the personalities. I don't think anyone here as complained about his work or him personally untill now.

Also 1#RealTrekFan, at this point you've undermined any past point and future point you might try to make by your recent comments.

I think when Tobias says that TrekBBS (and likely this Fan Production Forum in particular) has become a "dark place," he probably means "dark" in the sense of "unpleasant and without any hope that something good will happen." For example, "The film is a dark vision of the future." There are lots of "dark places;" the horrific Holocaust doesn't have a market on the term. I think possible inferences might say more about #1RealTrekFan than about Tobias Richter.

At any rate, Tobias is no longer here to further elucidate. Go elsewhere to seek your clarifying answers from him as to what he might have meant.

The thing is...it's one thread, on one of the BBS smallest boards. On the front page, it's surrounded by threads discussing Yorktown, Horizon etc. Most of the BBS couldn't care less about Axanar, let alone get vicious enough to turn the place into a 'toxic environment.'

My sympathy is also somewhat lessened by him never saying a peep when it was Braga, Orci, Berman, Taylor, Baird, Abrams etc who were subject to such...scrutiny, nor when threads have turned into outright flame wars between Alec and whoever drew his ire. Whether it's due to apathy (or even because the subject was one he'd support being ripped to pieces,) Richter has never given a crap about this sort of thread before. Trying to make out that leaving is all-of-a-sudden a matter of principle (or a moral high-ground) is just ridiculous.

Not sure Starfleet Universe would've been able to grant such a license. First of all, "the original license for Star Fleet Battles does not come from either Desilu Inc., or Paramount Inc., but from Franz Joseph, the creator of the Star Fleet Technical Manual, though they have now a limited license to continue from Paramount. As such, the universe presented within the game is based not on the television show, but on Franz Joseph's work." (from Memory Beta)

Also the license from Joseph, or the underlying license later granted by Paramount, would have to specifically allow the production or sub-licensing of films. I would be highly surprised if either license did. Gaming licenses are very specific, as are publishing licenses. Pocket Books, for example, could not just go off and produce their own video series based on Star Trek: Titan; their license is for publishing only, and under direct supervision of CBS.

I remember the old GEC.

One individual (who did the Cetus starship) never had the word Federation at all. Klingon were renamed--but you could tell those were Klingon ships

Here we go James Wappel

He called Klingons the Chetzoq (SAHA class) Terra Force

I'm prepping my "fan film" on the off chance Axanar wins. There are sheep to be milked out of their cash!
