Star Trek - Horizon (Enterprise Feature-Length Fan Film)

I've never watched much of Enterprise.... not that I have anything against it; it just aired during a time where i wasn't watching any tv. How did Enterprise get around the continuity issue that no one knew what Romulans looked like in Balance of Terror?

They never came face to face with them.

If i remember correctly, no one in the federation camp (besides maybe vulcans) ever saw a romulan in Enterprise.

[Edit:] Ninjad!

Tommy Kraft's father commented on Drexler's fb page:

This is Tommy's father. He had no help from anyone other than sound design . This is all his work from cinematogrophy to directing and producing and doing the score and all the CGI,and he wrote the story and the script and bought a sewing machine andmade all the costumes himself. Most of the filming was done in our basement before a green screen except for some scenes at a friend's lakehouse and a bit of studio work in Detroit and a bit from SanDiego. This was a 3 year long labor of love in a Star Trek era set in a time he loves---that of Captain Archer---the very first Captain who started it all. Tommy worked day and night on this project and did all the editing from his bedroom-studio.

It does seem like Daikon would've taken his helmet off as his last act if he wanted to create problems for the newly formed Coalition.

My mistake, then. I was just watching a bit of it to get the feel for the production, and must have confused the camera cutting to show the romulans, with an actual visual communication. My bad.

Which brings up...

Why didn't they get some sketches from T'Mar on what the Rommies looked like?

Not to take away from all the work that Tommy did, (and it's a lot!) his Pops' claim that "He had no help from anyone other than sound design" seems a bit weird in light of this listing from Horizon's own website...

I kept expecting someone to...
ask T'Mar about her true appearance. It wouldn't be surprising to me if she had actually told someone at Starfleet that Romulans were cousins to Vulcans, but Starfleet chose to keep this information classified, for fear that it might damage the somewhat tenuous relationship between humans and Vulcans if the truth were to get out. While it's just pure speculation on my part, this sort of thing wouldn't be totally unprecedented. After all, Starfleet clearly knew about the Borg long before Picard first encountered them, but had decided not to make their existence common knowledge.

I send Fuller a link to this film and suggested to get in touch with Tommy Craft. Maybe his ideas could be an asset to the creation of a new Star Trek show. Piller brought in new blood, maybe Fuller is open to that too.

One thing producers like is if a writer knows how to write a compelling story under budget restraints. And Craft certainly knows how to handle that.

I finally watched it. Some thoughts.

It's not bad for a fan fim but clearly in the same realm as most other fan films and not a professional scale production. As usual the acting is the worst element for fan films, but this one wasn't as bad as most. Still the creator needs to figure out a little about how to cast for charisma and presence, because these actors had none.

The visuals were much talked about, and in some cases it has a real "cinema" look to it, but the whole thing seems like neon signs were used to light the live action. It's overdone and eventually distracting.

The FX were "good" and fairly polished but I also had a hard time focusing on them. The ships moved too much or were obscured by something.

I liked how the story melded Iconians with Future Guy, but again, like some fan productions, they tried to do too much.

It's a nice effort, and I don't want to dissuade people from being creative. Overall this might have been the 3rd or 4th best fan film made.

I enjoyed it. Decided to just watch and enjoy and not be critical of it. Yeah, it could be better, but it could have been much, much worse as well. Very nice effort...

I have a question. Was it ever established what the weapon at the beginning was? I took it to be a ginormous stargate that moved the planet someplace else, but it occurs to me it could just have vaporized the planet too. If it's included in the film, I obviously missed it but does the film address this?

Yeah, the gate moved the planet to where the Discovery crew eventually encounter it. At least I think that's what happened.

Ah ok. That makes sense. Clearly I need to re-watch the film (not a bad thing at all!)
