The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

@Yanks Do you not care for the actress (Lauren Ambrose) or just the character of Agent Einstein?

I thought Ambrose played Einstein a little too high-strung in "Babylon" but in last night's episode, she appeared more relaxed and comfortable in the role. That difference really made the character more authentic and less theatrical to me.

Robbie Amell as Agent Miller is still pretty wooden but I liked his delivery of the line, "Who the hell are you anyway?" to CSM as he's rescuing Mulder.

I can't take my eyes of those two... warts? on Einstein's face.

When you have a stoma in your trachea, you can only speak by covering the stoma so air can pass thru the voice box. They were ignoring that basic fact with CSM last night.
And I'm not really sure how anyone can enjoy a cigarrette without tasting it.

GARBAGE

As stated by others, this felt like a strangely rushed episode. Should have been a 2-parter. As it was, it played out like a super-long extended version of "previously, on X-Files". They gave a shout out to the anti-vaccination nutjobs? Garbage. They flat out said "this is the end" in the opening credits, and then gave us that ending? Garbage. How the hell did Scully get on the same bridge as Miller and Mulder, and going in the same direction no less? In that perma-traffic jam?

Was that whole thing just a dream? Was that an actual episode? Is Mulder still on a mushroom trip?

Is Mulder still on a mushroom trip?

We can hope!

It's amazing that here most of the thoughts about the episode are (correctly :P) negative, when elsewhere people are saying it's just the new fans who don't like the episode, which isn't true at all.

I like Lauren Ambrose, she's great in Six Feet Under... where she had something to work with. On X-Files she seemed like a more annoying version of early Scully who grew like Scully did in 9 seasons to believe... but she did so in two hours and not 9 years.

I don't remember her from anything else, so I can just comment on what I've seen here. I'm not sure the actress is bad, but the ever hyper way she's portraying her character is horrible. I don't know if it's her or the directing or the writing. God I hope she's not replacing Gillian.

Miller on the other hand I could grow to like I think.

It's called nicotine.

I caught the same thing with regards to his "hole". Maybe it's some sort of alien technology.

For anyone.... who exactly was fighting Mulder? Thanks

The whole Aliens are scheming to take over the world thing is just blah now... all the fear/intrigue is gone.

Where does the show go from here? Will the aliens save humanity from the "chosen few"?

They'll cure the plague and the media will find some way to explain it then sweep it under the rug.

I'm wondering if the next episode will pick up where they left off or if they'll pick it up a year or whatever later once it's all over and in the past. I hope it's the former.

I'm still kind of annoyed that they appear to have completely retconned all of the alien stuff from the earlier episode. I kept thinking maybe it was going turn out that CSM was setting off the virus as a way to prepare the planet for the aliens arrival, but there was no real mention of them at all.
It still seems weird to me that they would just completely change the whole mythology after building up the original version for 9 seasons.
I thought the virus stuff was pretty interesting, and I did get a kick out of how they acknowledged all of the conspiracy theories that have been going around the last few years.

^^ This. This for me would have been epic.

Me too. I'd like to meet William in that Space ship. I was actually hoping to meet him when we had the episode about Scully's mother passing.

Joel McHale's "Tad O'Malley" internet-reporter character was better written and realized than Miller or Einstein, and he seemed to fit better into Mulder's world of conspiracies and the paranormal. If we ever get another season, I hope he returns and becomes a regular.

Yeah. A limited-run miniseries revival, testing the waters for a potential full season run, is not the best place to post half-a-story with a major cliffhanger. I guess if we never hear anything more,
we can just assume that Mulder dies, Scully is abducted (again), and the whole world is killed by the AIV.

Although I feel like watching The Sixth Extinction again, to see how that ties in with the newest revelations.

Unless it is a handover, I cannot see how we would get a full season given they found it very difficult to get GA and DD together for six episodes.

They gave a shout out to the anti-vaccination nutjobs? Garbage.

The small pox vaccination thing had nothing to do with anti-vaxxers.

It's a story point from 20 years ago on the show, when Mulder and Scully discovered that the Syndicate used the small pox vaccinations to catalogue people and possibly inject other things than just the vaccine into children (from last night's episode, it looks like one of those "other things" was the Spartan virus).

The aliens are not scheming to take over the world.

The aliens explained in very precise details how the world was going end if man didn't stop being such a dick.

The most healthy thing we could do as a race in the next ten years is to halve global population.

But there is no practical way to do that without nuclear weapons or deathcamps.

Regarding the tracheostomy tube; I don't think this is alien tech. I have no knowledge about them but from a quick look online there actually seem to be a few types of speaking valves on the market now which allow for speech without any need to cover the tube. additionally any air inhaled from the cigarette has to be exhaled at some point; if it is exhaled through the mouth or nose then you would be able to taste the cigarette. One of the benefits listed for these valves is actually improved senses of taste and smell.

Back in the late 60's I had to get a small pox vaccination or I couldn't go to high school one year. It was a big deal back then and makes a great plot point now.
