Spoilers The Flash - Season 2

People have been clamoring to see John Wesley Shipp back in the Flash costume and I dismissed it as fun wishful thinking but it seems like a real possibility now. They could do a crossover with the 90s Flash universe. It might be fun to have a follow-up to the old show. With Hamill, Pays and D'Ambrosio having been cast in their original parts, maybe the show runners had plans for such a thing. And maybe that's where Alex Désert will make his appearance. ;)

It would certainly provide an interesting new angle to the relationship between Barry and his dad, knowing that in another universe it was actually his father who became the Flash.

Of course they'd have to explain why in that universe he's named Barry instead of Harry...

Well, if Earth 1 Jay Garrick can be named Hunter Zoloman then Earth [number unrevealed] Henry Allen can be named Barry. It could be as simple as Henry's parents choosing the name Barry over Henry for no real reason in the other Earth. It wouldn't take more than a single line of dialog to establish why he has a different name.

And his own father was named Henry in turn.

I don't see a problem, though. Lots of families reuse the names of ancestors, so it's the luck of the draw. It's less of a coincidence than both Barry Allens undergoing the same kind of lab accident a quarter-century apart, not to mention one universe's Tina McGee and the other universe's Cisco Ramon designing nearly identical costumes, not to mention them both being named "the Flash" from two different sources.

Filming for the special is going on right now

I don't agree that a single Easter-egg image constitutes "official confirmation." It's a hint, that's all. I'd certainly like to believe that's what they intended, but it's just a wink to the audience at this point. For all we know, it could just be an in-joke.

The evidence isn't limited to just that single image, though; you've also got four characters from the 90s series with confirmed doppelgangers on Earth-1 of the Arrowverse: Barry Allen (Henry Allen), Tina McGee (Christina "Tina" McGee), James Jesse (James Jesse), and Tony Bellows (Tony Bellows).

Yes, obviously. I've pointed that out myself on several occasions. But in real-world terms, that could just be the producers paying homage. When George Lazenby showed up as "J.B." in The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E., that wasn't "official confirmation" that TMFU was set in the James Bond universe, it was just TMFU's producers paying homage to Bond and winking at the audience.

You keep talking about "evidence," but what you're forgetting is that evidence can fit multiple models. You can't be certain one model is correct until you've ruled out all the viable alternatives. As it stands, the evidence is just as consistent with the idea that it's simply an homage as with the idea that it's an in-universe "reality." Heck, since it's all fiction anyway, the difference between the two is rather blurry.

Anyway, I don't see why you have a problem with my choice to keep an open mind. I don't object to the idea that the '90 series is part of the multiverse; in fact, I think if you look back in the thread, you'll see that I proposed it myself even before last night's episode. So I'll be quite pleased if it's true. But so far, it's not "officially confirmed" yet, just hinted at.

Well to be fair, until now I don't think they could be considered actual "doppelgangers", just some clever casting and a tip of the hat to the original show.

Much like the casting of Dean Cain and Helen Slater in Supergirl. I seriously doubt the writers of that show would be able to make the case that the Danvers are somehow doppelgangers of a Superman and Supergirl from an alternate universe (unless we get a shocking revelation that they're both secretly Kryptonian, which seems unlikely)...

Edit: Oops, looks like Christopher beat me to it. :)

Given the multiversal mechanics that The Flash has established, the writers actually COULD make Eliza and Jeremiah be alternate-reality doppelgangers of the Donnerverse Supergirl and the Lois & Clark Superman were they so inclined.

I'm not really objecting to the idea of you keeping an open mind; I just don't see the point since I think the evidence and the intent thereof is absolutely clear on the matter.

To each their own, I guess.

They could be robots sent ahead, to make sure that Kal-El and Kara Zor-El don't lose the parent lottery. Considering his 14 year had start, the Danvers could have been robots/clones built by Superman to nanny his cousin.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "normally" Barry is Bartholomew Henry Sr. and Bart is Bartholomew Henry Jr., correct? Well, they could just flip it around. There could be some kind of line about how Henry's friends called him in Bart in college, but he hated it. The alternate Earth guy could have just kept the name.

AFA explaining why he has the speed force, midi-chlorians?

In Hindsight I wonder if it would have been better had the news broke about the Supergirl/Flash crossover today instead of last week. I think it would have been awesome to see the Supergirl image and then get confirmation the crossover was happening today.

It was a great episode last night. Loved seeing the earth 2 characters, some of which are a lot more interesting than the earth 1 characters (Like Caitlyn/Killer Frost).

I'm starting to wonder if Zoom isn't Barry-2 after all...this could be his origin. His ill-treatment by a super-powered interdimensional doppleganger might set him on the path of becoming obsessed with making himself more powerful than said doppleganger....

Barry Earth 2 is as much as a caricature of a super nerd as Clark Kent.

It'd definitely a red herring.

Was Earth 1 Barry ignoring the prescription lenses Earth 2 Barry had, or does earth 1 wear contacts, or were those glasses sporting clear lenses the whole time because earth 2 Barry is a hipster douche or a Super Villain/Hero.

No one else is thinking Crime Syndicate?

Wasn't Barry 2 knocked out and held in Star Labs with Wells?

Like I said, it's not absolutely clear unless alternative interpretations have been ruled out, and that standard of proof has not been met.

And the point is that critical thinking is a healthy habit to practice as a general rule. Besides, I've trained most of my life to learn to think like a scientist or historian; it's a reflex by this point.

That would've been cool, but it's gotten really hard to hide spoilers these days. They probably wanted to make the announcement themselves before somebody found out and leaked it.
