William Shatner is ready to return to Star Trek

Nothing new there. Shatner has wanted to return since the first reboot was announced but he won't settle for a cameo, he wants to be the Star again. Not gonna happen!

Lots of former Trek actors have stated that they'd like to return. Mostly because they have nothing else going on in their lives. But there's absolutely no reason why they would ever need to come back, unless the script specifically called for them (i.e. Spock Prime in Star Trek '09). So this is just smoke-blowing up our asses.

There's absolutely nothing stopping Shatner playing an older version of Pine's Kirk or an alternate reality/timeline version of his own Kirk. There's nothing to stop any living Trek actor from returning if the storyline is worth it.

I can think of two things:
1) The producers of the film(s). Nobody is bending over backwards to include Shatner in any movies (except for a cameo)
2) Shatner has stated many times that he "doesn't do cameos."

At the risk of sounding morbid, time isn't exactly on Shatner's side these days. If he's offered a cameo, he should swallow his pride and jump at it. I'm sure many of us would love to see him play Kirk one last time, no matter how small the part.

Could it be that some of them have motivation similar to Guy in Galaxy Quest?

Just that they are excited to "be on the show"?

I'm sure Marina Sirtis feels that way and would jump at the opportunity to come back, even if it was just a cameo and she got paid a pittance.

Shatner is a different story. As has been stated before, he's either got to be the center of attention and get paid lots of money, or he's out. This is not going to happen.

Think of it this way: If Adam West suddenly stated that he wanted to play Batman again in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie, and he wanted a ton of money and be the star, we'd all be laughing our asses off. Yet when Shatner says the same, we all want to take him seriously. What's wrong with this picture?

Because he's the captain, at least in that capacity is why many of us like him. But William Shatner isn't Captain Kirk, he's an actor who brought the character to life.
I never did accept Kirk dying in Generations, just like I couldn't accept Spock dying at the end of TWOK

Shatner's Kirk was a hero of mine growing up. But he agreed to kill the character off, so its over.

Life goes on.

Shatner hasn't been the captain for 22 years.

But William Shatner isn't Captain Kirk, he's an actor who brought the character to life.

Correct. And has been proven, other actors can bring the character to life just as much as he did.

I never did accept Kirk dying in Generations, just like I couldn't accept Spock dying at the end of TWOK

Whether one accepts it or not is irrelevant, as this is all just fiction, and the characters' life, death, or 'rebirth' is mandated solely by the script. And unless there's a script with Kirk Prime's rebirth in it, the character is still dead.

Too bad there's no more Star Trek to return to.

There is an ongoing series of films produced by Paramount, and a new television series produced by CBS in 2017. What do you mean, there's no more Star Trek?

Kirk dying like that was so pathetic. What an abomination Generations is.

There is no particular reason for Shatner to be back as Kirk, but if it ever does happen, William, seriously, lose some weight and look like a Star Fleet officer, will you? Yeah, I said it. Roly-poly Kirk doesn't really make me happy.
