Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Okay, so they just confirmed issues 71-76, which are the following:

71) Goroth's ship from "Bounty"
72) Enterprise-A
73) Borg ship from "Descent"
74) Bajoran impulse raider from "The Siege"
75) Cousteau (Captain's yacht from Insurrection)
76) Baxial (Neelix's ship)

Most of these were already on the list at Memory Alpha. The only two that we didn't already know about were Goroth's ship and the Bajoran raider.

Personally, as far as Klingon ships go, I'd rather have the D5, but at least now, when they finally get around to that one, they'll be able to say they covered EVERY Klingon ship class.

I think I'll get the Enterprise-A, the Captain's Yacht and maybe the Borg Descent one. No interest in the others, fairly bland.

Also #62 is out today, Prof Gegen's Voth Rescearch Vessel. I've seen the subscriber pics and videos and won't be bothering with this or the next issue, the Antares. The latter is fugly as sin, the former is ok, it reminds me of Serenity without its engines, but I think I'll live without it.

Alien-of-the-week ships from Voyager have never really appealed to me and I'm not sure about that renegade Borg ship. Asymmetrical ships (other than the Breen ship) are a little off-putting to me.

I probably would take the Antares, given the chance, though. I don't say no to a Starfleet ship, especially since this is really the only TOS-era design besides the non-refit Connie.

And yes, I'll get the 1701-A, if I can. Who won't, really?

I do have a wish list that I hope will be covered within the next 35 or so titles.

Nice list of new ships, the only one I am not a real fan is Nellie's shuttle. based on the clear shuttle getting a release as a normal size ship, I am now going to assume that the Romulan shuttle is also going to be a regular release, and that alien shuttle seem to fall into a different category then Federation shuttle craft.

Very happy to see the Bajorean raider from DS9' The Siege, I loved the episode, and I loved Kira and Dax's banter while retrieving and flying it. And here we have the refit Enterprise A, all I can say is after the massive mistakes on issue 2, Eaglemoss better produce a great model. that movie ships is literally my favorite design in all of Trek. I hope why we get is as good as the Reliant way back in episode 11 or so (That was a great model). also very happy that they intend to do all the Klingon ships, though I assume they won't due the terribly cheap looking shuttle from tng, God that was awful. I also hope that we can get them to do the Klingon design that was supposed to be used for Enterprise's Unexpected, that has popped up after the fact in various works. really want that as well. Toroth's ship features a lot of details, and since its smaller hopefully Eaglemoss will manage their typically (with one exception) excellent history in producing really well done Klingon ships.

I just got the Saber class today, and looking at the model, it really looks like it was originally designed as a much larger vessel, then what it became "Officially". 122 escape pod hatches, few federation ships have more. With a crew of 40 even with carrying troops or emergency transport thats a ton of escape hatches for that size. also based on the size of the shuttle bay doors and the Bridge module make the ship seem built larger then what it's supposed to be. Anyone else feel that way?

Don't we all. My issue is I look at the body of work in ships for trek and see what I think should be included, then look at what I want to be included....here's hoping for 130 too 150 ships....

As for the Antares, looking at that besides the nacelle's I don't get the feeling that it was designed by anyone who did any design work on TOS, all the ships, even the botany Bay as a rather smooth graceful look to them. Not this ship, the exact opposite.

Well, technically, it wasn't. It was presumably designed by whoever animated the episode "More Tribbles, More Troubles" where we saw a couple of unmanned freighters with this design. Then, years later, the Okudas added a command module and retroactively inserted into "Charlie X".

Not every Starfleet ship can be long and graceful. It's plausible that there would be some designs for things like freighters or transports that are a bit more boxy and utilitarian-looking. The Jenolen's another example (and one I'd really like to see). Another is the holo-ship from Insurrection.

I knew it was from the animated series, but i have only watched that twice once when it first came out, and once when it was released to the home market. it was never something that i liked much. But I didn't know if any of the design work was done by anyone connected to the original series, after all they did have some in front and behind the scenes personal who worked on both, so it at least seem possible.

And I have no problem with the ships that have a more industrial design. The Fortunate is my favorite design in all of enterprise, which features many ship designs that I really, really love. i also really like some of the various other freighters used in Trek. From the Merchantman (Please make this ship for God's sake), to the garbage ship in TNG's Final Mission to the Cassidy's freighter, not to mention the Horizon. All of which I would like to see made (heck add the cardassian freighter as well while were at it). I am just trying to imagine what Jeffries would have created as a freighter back in the day. His design work for trek at least wasn't of an industrial nature.

Frankly, that's hard to say. Jeffries' ship-designing history consisted only of the original Enterprise and some of the handful of other ships that appeared on the show (like the Klingon D7), none of which were Starfleet (plus the designs for the aborted "Star Trek II" series), so it's rather difficult to extrapolate a pattern from just one example.

It's worth noting that Mike Okuda himself thought the design "really looks like something that might have come from Matt Jefferies’ drawing board."

Got the shuttles (ordered, anyway) - 26% off sale yesterday (maybe today, too?) - of course the Voyager plaque and the mirror 1701 are out of stock. :( But at least I got the shuttles for cheaper, and they where the big expense...

Still miffed that the Voyager plaque and stuff like it aren't subscriber gifts. It really feels to me like those of us who've been loyal long-time subscribers got the shaft after the first year or so. They gave away some decent goodies early on, and then... nothing. All the bonus stuff is buy-on extra, and any of us who've stuck it out through customer service issues and what not, we have nothing "special" to show for our loyalty versus the pick-and-choose customers.

If I wasn't such an addict for owning ships like this, I'd be tempted to quit out early in protest. Sadly, I'm hooked and they know it. :S

How much are you paying per ship? I bet it's the same as two years ago where as the price has gone up at the newsagents.

Plus, sorry to break it to you, I doubt one snotty subscriber leaving because they're not getting anymore well done for subscribing gifts will make any bit of difference to the success or failure of this.

^ I have to agree: we were rewarded handsomely for our loyalty in the first year. The company's got to make profit, and that means not squandering their hard earned money by investing it in us subscribers over and over again.

On the mirror 1701 - I ordered it on release day but if it's already out of stock that explains why I haven't received it yet. Good to know. I'm a big mirror universe fan, and I'm looking forward to the release date to the mirror NX-01.

On freighter designs: I always thought that scaling up a shuttlecraft would give you the optimum freighter design. Put the Galileo beside the NCC-1701 and tell me you can't imagine the Enterprise being on escort duty for the USS Galileo freighter/construction ship/colony ship. We got an actual example with the executive shuttle/Sydney-class. The Type-6 shuttle would make a great 2360s Starfleet freighter, Imho.

Has anyone gotten the Kelvin yet? I thought it was supposed to be out last month, but I never heard anything more about it. It is available on their website, but I don't want to order it if I'm going to get one through my subscription.

Not yet. Yes, I'm thinking we should have gotten it by now. Based on prior history, they're usually 2-3 months behind on those things.

So are the ISS Enterprise and Voyager dedication plaque going to be extra specials or are we expected to purchase them separately like the shuttles?

I believe the ISS Enterprise is an additional purchase like the shuttles. I've been keeping a list of upcoming ships, and everything up to #76 has been identified, and the ISS Enterprise is not one of them. This is a bit disappointing, as I would prefer to get every ship automatically without having to think about it.

The plaques are the same, they are additional purchases, which in this case I am ok with, as plaques aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Edit: Here's the list of ships that are coming up. This is *my* list, and there could be mistakes on my part, so keep that in mind.

I must have gotten lucky as I ordered the I.S.S. E weeks ago during their sale and received it about two weeks ago. Same with the shuttles as I received them on the day they said they would be shipping out to US customers. I love the subtle changes to the nacelles and deflector dish that really differentiate the mirror-E from the TOS E.

The ISS was sold out when I went to order it. I, too, was surprised with getting the shuttles on the day they said they would ship.

I understand both points of view.

If I wasn't a contemplationist, I would have ended my Sub and gone on to issue-by-issue. I don't think they should do the plaques as part of the sub gifts, but at least one or two more Sub only ships. Something that says "We know you want to have the complete collection, here is a gift that we will only offer to you Subscribers." I would be ok if it would be at the end of the series or even if it was, say, re-skins of a current ships.

Heck, at this time, the Japanese Borg ship will do just fine. :techman:
