The First Trailer

My excitement for this movie just dropped to almost zero. I know trailers can be misleading and I hope this one is, as this is one of the worst trailers I have ever seen.

I like Beastie Boys, and motorbikes.

Just not in Star Trek.

Other than that, it's a good trailer to get the average moviegoer interested in Star Trek.

Gotta say, as someone who was not a fan of the last movie... I actually thought that looked really darn cool and fun. Yeah it's clearly another fast-paced action-fest, but at least they're not recycling TWOK again and we get to finally see the crew exploring an unknown alien world.

And given what a huge fan Pegg is, I'll be very surprised if the story doesn't have more depth and complexity to it than the trailer is letting on. So I'm not really too worried there.

I'm not into it. It doesn't look bad, exactly, but it just looks like a generic sci-fi action movie to me. There's not much here that Star Wars and GotG don't do better. Keep in mind that this teaser was made specifically to be played before the new Star Wars, though. Future trailers may lean less heavily on action.

Overall, I'm still cautiously optimistic. It's gotta be better than STID, right?

A note on the new alien characters: I like Sofia Boutella's character design, but if the rubber-faced lizard alien is really Idris Elba, that seems like a waste.

Not overly impressed but looking forward to it none the less.

This sums up the good and the bad for me...

It looks like big budget cinematic TOS.

Our fearless crew is cut off from official support and have to run, punch, cliffhang, and motorcycle jump their way to victory over an ominous group of something enslaving somebody. And they do it all while being cheeky and listening to cool rock music.

I loved Star Trek

STID was a solid watch

Got to admit despite some funny moments the trailer didn't grab me and what's with the Enterprise getting hammered in these movies, I so want a dam epic space battle with Big E coming out on top, she looks wrecked in this if not destroyed.

Its all set on 1 planet?

What, there's no shot by shot breakdown with screen captures yet? Come on people!

I hope the new CBS series is good. Because I am so done with the films. That trailer is just garbage. I can't imagine mustering enough interest to even go to the theater to see it.

Looks like Mad Max Fury Road, and I couldn't sit through more than the first 15 mins of that.

Awful trailer. Awful rock music. No Star Trek in it all. I'm out. But it's what I was expecting from Pegg and a director who's probably never watched Star Trek in his life.

What we have here is Nemesis on steriods with 3 times the budget, all made for the ADHD generation.

...and a director who's probably never watched Star Trek in his life.

Shows exactly what you know...

“I thought about how much a part of my life Star Trek was,” Lin said. “Growing up, my parents had this little fish and chips restaurant in Anaheim in the shadows of Disneyland, and they didn’t close until 9 PM. As a family, we didn’t eat dinner until 10 PM, and we would watch the original Star Trek every night at 11. My dad worked 364 days a year, only took Thanksgiving off, and from age 8 to 18, the only time I could hang out with my parents was by staying late. And every night, it was Star Trek on Channel 13 in L.A. That was my childhood. All my friends were Star Wars kids but I didn’t go to the movies, so I was the Star Trek kid. Thinking about this, it became a very personal and very emotional decision.”

I....

Um...

Evan after viewing that two times, I'm still not sure what I just saw. I'm all for action, but that...I don't know. I guess it's unfair to judge something based on 90 seconds of footage set to rock music. I just expected a sense of adventure. This is finally the 5-year mission, and the Enterprise blows up and they're stuck on a planet with motorcycles?

I don't want to be that guy but I have to be honest in my reactions... What the f*** did they do to Star Trek!?

...

There was a bit here and there that was interesting, but...

...Assuming the Enterprise get's blowed up early on, and we spend the film basically planet side with the crew scattered about, i'm thinking there's a possibility they might pull a Skyfall and pull the ol "Austin Martin" trick. It is the 50th, and this series of films has been very fan servicey up to this point. It wouldn't surprise me if the JJprise get's smashed just so they can build something more retro looking.

I like the new alien designs. The transporter effect is cool, actually rather reminds me of the effect from "Enterprise." The uniforms look good. AND I do like that we're spending more time on an alien planet and we're way out from Earth.

And straight after being given the directing job, Lin was really going to go running around telling everyone that he'd never watched Star Trek before and knew nothing about the show. . .

There's nothing in that trailer that tells me it's a trailer for a Star Trek film.

So you're calling the man a liar. Boy, "fandom" sure does sink low when it doesn't get what it wants.

Well, having just watched the trailer for "Star Trek: Fast & Beyond Furious" all I can say is .... uhm.... motorcycles? Really? WTF??
