Will WILLIAM SHATNER ever play James T Kirk again?

This has been asked ever since Kirk was wrongly killed off in 1994. Sahtner reprised the role for the 1997 videogame 'Starfleet Academy' as well as a sketch for the 2013 Oscars, plus a few voiceovers.

This has been mooted for over 20 years, Shatner pitched what became 'The Return' novel as the 8th film plus appearances as either Chef or Mirror Tiberius were spoken about for Enterprise. Finally for the 1st and 3rd JJverse films cameos were mooted too but don't seem to have happened (Orci's story for the 3rd movie allegedly had Pine and Quinto meeting their older selves - sadly though we did loose Leonard Nimoy so that would have required a rewrite).

So will it ever happen? Be it in an independent fan film, on TV or in a movie? Nimoy, Nichols, Koenig and Takei have all played their Trek roles on screen again since Generations. Yes Kirk died but this is science fiction and Shatner is still very much a hard working actor/personality - surely it may happen one day?

Maybe within the next year being Trek's 50th?

From what I read if Shatner wanted it, it would have happened. The Enterprise plans fell through over Shatner's cost. If he had taken what Paramount could pay, he'd have been on Enterprise. I'm sure one of the fan films would love to get Shatner, but will he work for free or even the SAG rate?

I doubt the producers and writers of a future Star Trek would work for free/minimum, why should William Shatner?

Shatner is still active with various projects, having him back with Star Trek in any capacity would be fantastic.

I don't think so and that's more than OK. There's time for everything and that particular ship has already sailed. :)

In twenty or thirty years, who will be mainly remembered as James Kirk? William Shatner (79 episodes and 6 movies) or Chris Pine (3 plus movies).

I think William Shatner.

If at some point in the future there is a Star Trek where all the characters are cgi creations, who's likeness would be used for James Kirk?

I think William Shatner's from the 1960's.

^Then let's have a cartoon Shatner/Kirk from the 1960s as a cameo. It is still preferable to Shatner.

In 20 or 30 years, Pine may have done just as many movies, however I doubt it. Pine may not WANT to be remembered solely for Star Trek, since he has an active movie career without Trek, as well.

Count me among those who have no deep, burning desire to see Shatner as Kirk again. That is not intended to be any sort of disrespect whatsoever.

For me, it's a mixture of a few reasons. First, the presence or absence of Shatner is not what determines my enjoyment of Star Trek. Second, the franchise is bigger than one actor in one role, no matter who it is. Third, Trek should honor its history, but at the same time, shouldn't be beholden to any one facet of it at the cost of its own future.

Kirk is my favorite Star Trek character, Shatner my favorite Star Trek actor. But that day is over.

Time to move on.

No. I don't see it happening at this juncture.

If they where going to find any reason to shoe-horn him in, it would be with Star Trek Beyond for the 50th, and it doesn't seem they're doing it.

I mean, if the audiobook of the Autobiography of James T. Kirk counts, then yes. It should. :shifty: Other than that, not likely.

No, for the exact same reason Adam West can't play Batman anymore.

Also, his character is dead. Any flashback would have him being 25 years older than he was when he died.

You are right, I would like him to do the audiobook for The Autobiography of James T. Kirk.

(EM) Like in this weeks new episode of HAVEN, as Croatoan in the flesh.

"Call me dad." :guffaw:

For him appearing in a film again, how about a "ST Beyond" end credits scene of Shatner apologizing for agreeing to be a part of killing off Kirk.

"I might have been in this film you just watched had I not been so arrogant and controlling with the character."

;)
