"Joey to the World" is a nice touch.

 I'm going to need that for an office Christmas party next month.

A's pitcher Sean Doolittle hosted 17 Syrian refugee families for Thanksgiving. :)

Toronto has signed J.A. Happ to a 3/36 deal.

Uh, they're missing AA already. Holy Moses.

yow. Hurts Pirates. Good.

I'm not sure it really hurts the Pirates.

I mean, he makes a career high $6.7 million in 2015, pitches for 21 games for a 4.64 ERA with Seattle, gets hot for 11 games with Pittsburgh, then somehow gets his pay nearly doubled over a 3-year term with a team that's already ditched him once.

Yeah, it's kind of a toss-up if I'd rather have had them sign him to that sized contract at age 33 or have him just be gone.

Hmm, less than I thought he'd take. High pay for a 'buy low' season, but not bad in this market. Not sure if that has any effect on the other guys or not. Rumor is that Cueto already turned down 6/120 from the Diamondbacks. And Red Sox are supposed to be sitting around 7/200 for Price at the moment. Winter meetings coming up soon, so this should get the ball rolling.

Yeah, expect Price to get 2-3 years and about $80-90 million more than Zimmermann's deal. All indications are that the Red Sox are going hard after Price, so if they get it done, it's gonna be weird seeing them finally spend big money on a big free agent pitcher. Probably both a change in philosophy with Dombrowski now in charge (and having more power than Cherington or Epstein ever had) and a reaction to their failure to retain Jon Lester.

It's not a drastic change, it's just been a little while. Pedro was paid pretty well at the time, Beckett and Lackey both got big deals that year, they've had big time pitchers, just not since the FA market jumped into requiring 200M to get a deal done.

Price seems as good a target as any. Dunno if Grinke plays well with the Boston media ready to pick at him, but he could be a good bet on fewer years than Price as well. He's probably more in the 5/150 range. Is that better than 7/210 for Price? probably...

Greinke is absolutely going to get more money than Price.

Edit: According to Heyman, the Marlins are seriously considering Barry Bonds as their new hitting coach.

Fuck the Marlins and all that, but Bonds the Dinger Machine coaching for the team with a literal Dinger Machine would be amazing.

You should see the burning effigies outside of Rogers Centre over this.

I'm hoping that we can get a mid-range, effective guy (Chen, Fister, Gallardo, Leake, Samardzija) because there is no chance of us re-signing Price or signing Greinke with the money in play.

Supposedly Ben Zobrist is who the Mets are targeting. This is so stupid and of course so the Mets. He'll want 3 or 4 years at at least 10mil per year. Oh yeah, he's 35 years old. So they will be paying big money for a utility player. LolMets!

In exchange for who?

Uh, he's a free agent.

Still happy to have seen AA walk and Mark "Cost-Cutter" Shapiro take over?

Wanna bet?

Greinke is 2 years older than Price, and would be playing in his year 32 season this year. No way anyone's talking 7 years on him, which seems to be more or less a given on Price. Even if Greinke gets 1-2M more per season, he's going to get a year or two less on the deal.

No way Greinke gets 200M unless someone gives him 40M per season. Doesn't seem like Price is going for less than 200M.

Boston Globe is reporting Price to the Red Sox at 7/217; Rosenthal says Price has a Greinke-esque opt-out after the three-year mark.
