sf/f TV development news - 2016

So we might be getting two unrelated HG Wells inspired series, that's funny. CBS is also doing Supergirl and has Person of Interest, so it looks like they might be starting slowly moving away from their typical procedurals.
 
Digital Spy are reporting Sky are to make an "Indiana Jones style" series for next year.

Sky1 is diving into a world of adventure with a new Indiana Jones-style drama series.

Michael Landes and Ophelia Lovibond will play the title roles in Hooten & The Lady - an international caper from writer Tony Jordan.
Lovibond is Lady Alexandra Lindo-Parker of the British Museum, who teams with adventurer Hooten - played by Landes.

Together, the pair track down fabled treasures from the past, including the lost Amazonian golden city of Z, the Buddha's missing scroll and the lost tomb of Alexander the Great.

Not familiar with Landes, but I really liked Ophelia Lovibond on Elementary.
 
That could be good. It sounds like it has a contemporary setting, but that's okay-- so did Relic Hunter. I'm not sure what Sky1 is, though, or if I have access to it.
 
Sky 1 is British channel on our largest pay TV provider. I'd think it would end up on a cable channel over there. It may well be a co-production with someone over there anyway.

BBC have just announced a new Doctor Who spin off for BBC Three, with a YA novelist listed as Writer/Creator.

BBC Three today announces Class - a new 8x45 Doctor Who spin-off from the acclaimed young adult author Patrick Ness.
Class is a YA series set in contemporary London. Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy, Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you've never seen it before.
Steven Moffat says: “No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we're bringing his brilliant storytelling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain - but with monsters!”
On his first television series, writer Patrick Ness says: "I'm astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There's so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I think some Sky shows have even popped up on BBC America, so that's a possibility too.
Most of the high profile British shows seem to pop up here in the US in some form, so I'm pretty sure this will eventually.
 
True. BBC America is a good bet. They have a ton of shows on On Demand now.
 
BBC are currently in talks with other UK broadcasters to start a 'Best of British' vod subscription service around the world, unless I've misunderstood the story.
 
We got a the first trailer for Shadowhunters, ABC Family's adaptation of The Mortal Instruments YA Urban Fantasy novel series.

I read the first book in the series a year or two ago, and while we don't see any actual footage here, I do like the look of the characters and the style of the trailer.
And IGN has a preview for Hunters, Syfy's adaptation of Whitely Steiber's Alien Hunters novels, from The Walking Dead EP Gale Anne Heard and 12 Monkeys EP Natalie Chaidez. I've never read these books, but the trailer is very intriguing.
 
ABC is developing a Fantasy Island reboot. In this version Mr. Roarke will be a woman and Fantasy Island is a San Francisco based company that provides fantasies.
 
I've actually just started watching the original on Cozi TV for the last months and been enjoying it. I could see a modern update being cool. I just hope they don't do to many Western episodes.....
Does anybody know if the first remake is online anywhere?
 
I don't know, but I can tell you it was pretty horrible. :rommie:

The original was a mixed bag. The movies and first season were great. The second season was terrible. The rest of the series had some serious ups and downs until the final season, which was terrible. But along the way, there was some pretty cool stuff. It was a fantastic concept that the people behind the scenes did not know how to handle. But Ricardo Montalban and Herve Villechaize were fantastic, and the perfect team for that show.
 
Very cool. I'm not very familiar with the original, but after Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal and his Trek work I'll watch anything with Brian Fuller involved.

I'm kind of surprised to see the flashback in the beginning of the trailer, I would have thought Bane's screwing around in Clary's head was kind of a big spoiler to be revealing in the first trailer.
