You do realize lens flares really do happen, watch some NASA video from space. Or watch A New Hope again, when the Falcon comes to help Luke. Lens Flare happens there too. Was that ruined as well?

If JJ puts a light saber in the hands of Kermit the frog and has him spending two hours just singing about nipple clamps and butt plugs, people would still go and see it and tell you it was brilliant.

Another point for the OP: Lens flare is a commonly used effect, both on TV shows and films, thus it is strange to see people overreact to its usage.

I looked through the trailer again and caught two, maybe three instances of lens flare despite countless opportunities for its use (for example, when the figure is climbing around inside the huge derelict spacecraft with a bright blue helmet light swinging back and forth across the camera). So the OP's complaint is a non-starter.
There is lens flare in the first Star Wars movie, after all - in every one, in fact.

Especially in the first one. The lens flare effect was utilized in the worst moments in the film. Both films had them at times when people were just standing having a discussion. I suspect he will do the same for SW.
