Who are your favourite villainous characters?

Star Trek has given us some excellent villains over the last 49 years. Who are your faves?

Mine are

Khan - Obvious choice but he really was the best and is truly iconic.

Q - More mischievous than villainous but still a thorn in Picard's side. I always looked forward to his appearances.

Gul Dukat - Probably the best developed of the villains. I enjoyed his arc until he went crazy. I thought the character became pantomine and cheesy after that.

Seska - For me, one of the best things about Voyager. I can't really see a way in which she could have continued beyond the Kazon arc but I wish she had because I preferred her to 99% of the main characters.

Just a few examples. I'll post more of my faves later.

Dukat without a doubt. The most fleshed out and realised villainous character in Trek.

Winn is also pretty high up on the list as well. Though she is probably more slef-serving and power-hungry than villainous.

Weyoun was also charmingly villainous.

Winn is the first name that pops to mind. She was a joy to watch. She had that kind of cheese factor, that most villians from SG1 had.

Another fave of mine the nice green guy Gorgan from TOS "And the children shall lead". His "Death to you all" is still as charming as it was the first time I saw it.

And now I have to begin to search... so those two always do the trick for me.

1. Dukat, easy. Most Trek villains are one dimensional, Dukat was given more layers. For the first few seasons he's able to sell himself to the audience and himself as a gray area of morality, then when you look closer he's more terrifying than the one dimensional villains.

2. Kai Winn. Her political-speak and absolute selfishness always made her interesting.

3. The Borg. In their first two appearances their sense of inevitability was chilling.

Sadly, he didn't appear much, but I really, really liked Andreas Katsulas' Romulan Commander Tomalak. I felt that the writers wanted him to become Picard's adversary/Romulan opposite number, a truly worthy, wily, dangerous, but also reasonable and sane deadly foe, but TNG wasn't doing too much in the way of return guests.

Also, Carolyn Seymour's fairly complex Commander Toreth in Face of the Enemy was fantastic. Love dem Rommies.

Weyoun is high on my list.

But I think my favorite villain of all will always be Gary Mitchell.

2. Kai Winn. Her political-speak and absolute selfishness always made her interesting.

She's my fave too. I liked it when she tried to be good till Kira told her to step down. I was really wondering the first time if she would change. Also Louise Flechter was so brilliant.

Another vote for Gul Dukat here, OK this is partly because his character was so well written and partly because Marc Alaimo is a really good actor.

Unfortunately, because of the way the various series worked, this poll will invariably favour DS9, as other class villains like Winn, Weyoun, the Female Changeling and Brunt (well he did give Quark a hard time) all have a good bit of screen time.

Dukat is one of my favourite villains of all time and no other ST villain gets near to him.

He is brilliant, highly skilled, courageous, charismatic. Yet, I love how endearing he is, he is almost likeable...you can almost empathise with him....and yet he is 'evil' [I don't like the word, too simplisitic but it shall have to do] and at many points, utterly insane. He is entirely deluded by his own power, his own brilliance, his own goals and yet it is easy to see why so many follow him. Just a wonderful character.

My second favourite, actually is the Borg Queen. I find her fascinating! I really would love to have a philosophical debate with her on what she is doing and what she realistically aims to achieve. I know some dislike her [and wish the Borg had no Queen at all] but I love her, the concept of what she is and what she represents. She thinks what she is doing is 'right' and can in some ways justify it [no war/hatred/racism/murder in the collective]. And, similar to Dukat, she has a charm about her. One of my favourite images of her is in 'Unamatrix Zero' when she stands in the drones haven looking all the serpent she truly is.


Of course honourable mentions go to: the hilarious and charming Q, the hilarious,charming and fanatical Weyoun, Khan [for chewing the scenery so well] and Seska [for being something a smidge different].

If Q can be on that list, Garak certainly can, in my opinion

(What is the actual definition of a villain for the purposes of this thread? Does he need to be an antagonist, or can it be a "morally perverted" (or at least very dubious) person that just happens to be on our heroes side, too ?) For example, are section 31 members "villains" ?
