Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

I do have to point out that Finn is still doing the heavy breathing thing in this shot. :D

Maybe he's the one who was holding Vader's helmet in the earlier trailer? Thinking, 'finally, I can breath like a normal person!'

Well there are three films to beat if it wants to break it all. Star Wars itself, Avatar, and Gone with the Wind.

If it is just Domestic, that's still nearly a quarter of a billion dollars over Avatar to make a Billion dollars.

And to beat them all worldwide: We are talking around $3.5 billion. At which point there will be no more questions asked save, "when is the next movie coming out?"

I just noticed that Avatar, with one film, has out gross all the Star Trek films. All 12 of them. By nearly a billion dollars.

The Empire couldn't teach its Stormtroopers to shoot straight. The First Order can't teach its Stormtroopers to pick up a rifle without needing to take a nap.

Sad, really.

That 15 second clip is on Star Wars.com along with this description
Kylo Ren saw something as he trudged through the trees of a dark snowy forest and ignited his now famous crossguard lightsaber. We don’t know what it was, but a new video teaser that just debuted on Star Wars’ Instagram account shows someone else in a similar-looking environment. We finally get to see Finn rock out a blue lightsaber, and he looks pretty eager to use it.

Something big is about to go down.

Please don’t be disappointed that this clip is only 15 seconds long. We only have 112 days to go.

I almost got to sneak a peek at some of the TFA Hot Wheels. While I was at work we got in a truck and I saw like 3 or 4 boxes of Star Wars Hot Wheels with the Sep. 4th date on them. By the time I got a few minutes to go back and open one up they had been moved and I didn't have time to go looking for them. (I did check with my boss and he said I was OK as long as I didn't buy any of them.) I'm going to keep an eye and if I get a chance to open one before the 4th I'll let you guys know what I see. I won't take pictures though, I don't want to risk the wrath of Disney....

The bolded part makes me think back to (I believe) an episode of Disney's Tale Spin. One of Shere Khan's henchman (corporate raiders in the cartoon) makes a very nice Star Trek reference when making a demand to the good guys: "Surely you don't want to suffer The Wrath of Khan?" :)

I'm the world's biggest Star Wars fan, but I can't see TFA out-grossing Avatar.
ROTS grossed $848 million. Avatar grossed $2.788 billion.
So ROTS only did 30% of the business of Avatar* (not adjusted for inflation but they were only 4 years apart)
We're certainly all excited about TFA, but does Joe Q Public care?

It's Star Wars.

You can say this, but its not the days when Star Wars as a concept, was the biggest game in sci-fi / fantasy filmmaking. Since the 2000s, a large number of fantasy films completely surpassed Star Wars as a top movie interest, and that was due to more than the prequels being terrible.
