Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Disney might take marketing to an obnoxious level, but I don't think they'll mismanage the Star Wars franchise and start turning everything they touch into lightsabers, Jedi Knights and Darth Vader. They're masters of just releasing enough content to keep you wanting more if their past home video releases of classic animated movies are any indication of how they'll handle Star Wars as the years pass.

Given that the first stand alone movie will be Rogue One about the team that stole the Death Star Plans (no Jedi in the team as far as i know though Vader will appear) i'd say they have a good grasp on the whole universe and will branch out the stories.

The main movies will still feature jedi heavily but they Anthology movies so far will shine a light on other characters and happenings and i hope that in a few years down the line they will have the courage to branch away from the "old trilogy" characters and start inventing cool new ones with entirely new storylines.

They have bought an insanely detailed and wide open universe to play in, it would be a shame if they only concentrated on a half dozen characters.

I'm pretty sure it's a foregone conclusion. Haven't they gone on the record saying this trilogy is the passing of the torch?

Disney/Lucasfilm has released a hi-res (3500x1458) still from that scene we saw in the international TV spot. You can find it at the end of the gallery here.

You can see some redesigned AT-ATs on the right side of the pic. They appear to be "headless".

It looks like the First Order AT-AT Walker design incorporates some kind of ball turret or cannon battery in place of the old head and cockpit. It kind of looks like a hybrid design using elements from both the Republic Clone Army AT-TE walkers and the classic Imperial design.

I don't think they are headless, just the head was moved back into the body. You can see that it's still a separated area. It's still squarish, but instead of being out on a neck, it's integrated into the hull.

ETA: I added red circles to the pic of what I'm talking about

They're headless. You can see in the last link provided of thereally large hi-def image that 2 guns come straight out of the neck location.

I'm guessing at some point Threepio didn't take his own advice of "Let the Wookiee win"?

Entertainment WeeklyJJ Abrams talks about Kylo Ren a bit - some spoilers

“He is a character who came to the name Kylo Ren when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren,” Abrams says. But that’s as far as the writer-director will go. What are the Knights of Ren? You’re going to have to wait until Dec. 18 to find out.

We are now the Knights Who Say 'Ecky-ecky-ecky-ecky-pikang-
zoop-boing-goodem-zoo-owli-zhiv'

Nice to read that the larger focus of the story still appears to be on Luke and whatever emotional place he is at 30 years later (even if he doesn't actually appear in much of the first movie).

Although if there are no official Sith Lords in the new movie that will please the fans who want the whole "Balance of the Force" thing preserved and the Sith to have been destroyed and wiped from the galaxy by Anakin's heroic, end-of-life sacrifice at the conclusion of ROTJ. The Chosen One thing and all that stuff.

Frankly, I'd have preferred Kylo Ren to be a revival of the Sith after 30 years and the heroes in the new film battling that new Sith threat to the existence of the Resistance/New Republic/whatever, but as long as he's a competently-written and performed villain then I don't really care that much if he's a Sith Master or apprentice or whatever.

Asajj Ventress wasn't a Sith Lord but she was one of the best-written and most interesting villains of the entire Clone Wars era.

Well, in theory at least, shouldn't the Rule of Two make it so that there wouldn't be any Sith Lords anyway? Vader and Palpatine both died, so unless there were secret Sith Lords roaming around, there shouldn't be any left to carry on the tradition.

Doesn't mean there can't be evil Force users, though.

So, Ren is no longer with Stimpy and has his own knights? Interesting.

Who is the chrome storm trooper?

or Chrometrooper
