Last Classic Who Story you watched

Many valid reasons why "The Happiness Patrol" is a piece of crap
The company that makes that licorice candy should have sued for damages. To this day I haven't bought a single bag or package of that stuff because it reminds me of this horrible Doctor Who story.

There are only three Sylvester McCoy stories I enjoyed: Paradise Towers, Silver Nemesis (another I, Claudius actress is in it - the one who played Agrippina the Elder), and Battlefield - because there are not just one but two Brigadiers. It was great to see Lethbridge-Stewart again, and I really liked Winifred Bambera. This story was also the first time we ever got a real sense of U.N.I.T. being truly international in scope.

For me, Delta and The Bannermen and Battlefield are the two 7th Doctor stories I really like. I find Silver Nemesis and Survival tolerable (although Survival gets most of its points with me because I'm a huge fan of Anthony ainley's Master), and Rememberance of the Daleks isn't particularly bad, but its not that good either. The rest of McCoy's run I don't like, although there are different degrees of dislike/hate.

Image Of The Fendahl:
One of my all time favourite Tom Baker stories. I liked the idea behind the Fendahl. They seemed like a great scary monster.
This is one story that genuinely scared me. It was just that creepy and horrible, what happened to the scientist who got taken over.

This is one of the stories in which the Doctor explains that when people see ghosts, they're actually seeing through a rift in time.

Can anyone explain to me why Leela kissed that scientist? I've been wondering about that for over 30 years now...

Because she thinks he might die..... I don't know. Leela did many funny things.

But it was out of character for her. Leela was a warrior, and didn't normally bother comforting people who were afraid.

Besides, if I remember correctly, he was the only one of that entire group of scientists who actually survived.

Oh right Colby.. He did survive.

OK no idea why she kissed him.

She fancied him? ;)

I should love Image Of The Fendahl, it's from the gothic era, it's creepy and riffs on Quatermas and the Pit, and yet despite watching it a couple of times now I can't bring myself to think of it as anything other than average

But Leela doesn't seem the type to fancy random guys.

I dunno, she left the Tardis for a guy she'd met two minutes ago...

Which is why The Invasion of Time's ending was so jarring, yes.

This pretty much.. It was so out of character

My benchmark for when Who jumps the shark is when K9 shows up and Tom Baker can no longer be bothered to wear a tie or button his waistcoat--more or less after "The Horror of Fang Rock."

"...Fendahl" is after that, but K9 stays stuck in the TARDIS and, IIRC, Baker wears a vest and tie in it. (Not that those are the reasons the story is good--they're just benchmarks that happen to line up with good.)

What I'm doing a terrible job of explaining is that my expectations start to drop after "The Invisible Enemy," so when you get a nifty Hinchcliffe--feeling story like "...Fendahl" it is a treasure.

Do you think if they returned in New Who they'd be made to suck or could they still be made scary?

I speculate it must have gone like this: "If this is the best example of the warriors that protect the Doctor's home world, it's in big trouble. Andred probably can't even kill and skin and cook his own food, like that useless Rodan and her silly capsules. I'd better stay here and teach these idiots how to survive."

So the only good Tom Baker story is one in which he wears a tie and buttons his waistcoat? Or is that Classic Who in general? :wtf:

If so, you must have absolutely loathed Planet of Fire since the Doctor goes around in shirtsleeves and Turlough strips down to his swimsuit (there's a rather interesting screenshot from that part of the episode that probably can't be posted here anymore... :p).

Also, K9 is the best Tom Baker companion. Well, ok, maybe he's tied with Sarah Jane. Still, I love that robot Dog. I wish Britain wasn't weird and the BBC actually owned K9 (I still don't get how people can make stuff specifically for a show but the show doesn't actually own it, its like if Paramount/CBS/etc had to keep asking permission and paying to use the klingons back when ST was on the air). I'd like to see K9 on NuWho more.

Good luck getting that back off Disney. They took the character and frankly butchered it into a show that was not that great.

Watched the first two eps of Pyramids of Mars last night in bed. I'll have the last two episodes tonight. It's still a thing of beauty.

From what I've read, Disney doesn't own K9, Bob Baker does. Disney just showed/shows reruns of the K9 spinoff show on its Disney XD channel in some countries, and they helped produce/distribute the series when it was still being made.

Was that the show that they made a few years ago where K9 morphs into another form and his memory of the past is erased?

Yep. Baker owns K9, but not the design, and he couldn't have K9 reference Doctor Who, so they ended up doing what they did to set up the K9 show with a new design and a reason he doesn't reference Doctor Who.
