E3 2015

Good conference from Sony. Really stoked about the FFVII remake, been waiting a while for that announcement.

Think Xbox kinda shit on Sony's riff with the whole backwards compatibility thing. That's a big win for Microsoft.

Don't know why Sony have bothered stealing the Call of Duty exclusivity from Xbox. I doubt that's going to earn them any more customers/players, and has really just created a shitstorm amongst the Xbox CoD elite. Petitions are flying already.

Still think Bethesda stole the show before it even started.

^ CoD marketing partnership is not so much a steal, Sony is lead platform this gen anyway. The switch was inevitable.

BackComp is cool but a really inconsequential feature if we're talking about sales impact.

I'm stoked I can put my 360 in storage now, make room for more current gen consoles.

I don't know, I've already seen a number of hold-outs on my Facebook and Twitter feeds who have decided to pick up an Xbox later this year off the back of the backwards compatibility announcement. I think it's going to be a big draw for a lot of people who haven't adopted next gen yet.

I'm just happy I'll be able to revisit some old favourites without having to buy another 360 or wait for HD remakes.

Of course these people exist, just not in any significant quantity vis-a-vis the engineering issues of implementing it (at launch). It's totally nice-to-have, of course.

People who are only know adopting current-gen are overwhelmingly price-sensitive, much less so feature-sensitive.

The internet the past 24 hours:

And apparently the Shenmue 3 kickstarter already hit the target in 9 hours...

Since I got a PS2 back in junior high, I always wanted an FF7 remake. Square did announce a remake of FF7 alongside remakes of 8 and 9 way back like 13 or so years ago for the PS2, and now we're finally one of them :P

They did a FFVII tech demo around the launch of the PS3 to show off what the console was capable of, which was essentially a remake of the games opening cinematic. That got everyone mega excited at the time, and fueled the remake fire for another decade. I hated them at the time for teasing us like that, but now I'm so happy they waited because this new trailer makes that tech demo look like crap, haha.

I hope they use the music that was done for the Advent Children CGI film in this remake to, because that was awesome.

Nintendo's presentation was meh at best. But I wasn't expecting a whole lot - the only thing I was looking for was a release date for Xenoblade Chronicles X and a bit more on the new Fire Emblem game. I might pick up Star Fox after taking a better look at it.

Not sure why everyone is surprised/disappointed (holy crap - the reactions on neogaf). It's not a secret that the Wii U (and the 3DS to some extent) isn't doing well, so they're probably going to approach that situation by riding out the previously announced projects and building up the pipeline for the next system(s).

Hell, they pretty much hinted at that when they said they're only presenting stuff that is expected from now until early 2016 and that the company is in a transition period with new business ventures (mobile, the theme park thing, etc). And that includes probably transitioning development of new games to the NX, whatever it may turn out being.

I wasn't expecting anything big for the Wii U, but a small game like Captain Toad or new Mario Kart 8 / Splatoon DLC would have been nice. With the exception of games that I already knew about, there was nothing new to get excited about on the Wii U.

With that said, the Wii U does have a strong 2015 lineup with Star Fox, Mario Maker, Xenoblade. Yoshi, and Devil's third and the new Paper Mario for the 3DS looks awesome. But I still wanted something new.

Ouch!, Playstation announced the 20th anniversary controller will be out for everyone in September this year at about half that price.

True enough. They do have the Nintendo Directs several times a year, so maybe we'll hear something about Kart, Smash, or Splatoon DLC in a few months? They are planning a larger update for Splatoon (another ranked battle mode IIRC) in August.

I really enjoyed watching the PS E3 Press Conference on my PS4.
The games I am most excited about:

Star Wars Battlefront
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
No Man's Sky
Horizon
Until Dawn
Batman Arkham Knight

Honorable mention:
Final Fantasy VII Remake (please do NOT Advent Childrenify Tifa...keep her as she was in the original FFVII )
Street Fighter V
Dreams

Sony's Press Conference was incredible!

And I have to say, I am starting to become just a bit more enticed to actually get an Xbox One, despite my initial revulsioin to what they initially planned, and then recanted on. My big worry is/was that they're going to reneg, and go back to what they initially planned (Strict DRM, No Used Title sales, Must Be Online, etc.). The jury's still out, but I am becoming a bit more enticed to get Xbox One as well so I can more fully embrace this generation like I originally planned. But only just a bit.

(Nintendon't even figure into my plans. :D )

Shenmue III kickstarter! I *love* Shenmue and am ecstatic it passed the original 2 million oal in only nine hours. I wanna contribute but I'm a little annoyed none of the options come with a PHYSICAL copy on the PS4.
