Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

This is all very complex for those of who just watch the films, I prefer

1) Luke is the last/first Jedi
2) The rest of these people I've never heard of are shot in the face with a space-uzi before A new Hope.

That will be entirely up to the writers at this point. They might cancel Rebels after two seasons and repurpose them for a post-New Hope cartoon, or even a post-Return of the Jedi cartoon (lots of time to play around there) with the same characters. Then again they might keep Rebels going for four or five seasons until the characters would get to the point of A New Hope.

They might start up a completely different story around the time of The Force Awakens, once there is a story for people to see this December.

They already finished writing Rebels, I believe it is four seasons long. They're currently working on the NEXT animated show which is rumored to be post-ROTJ.

I like that. Hopefully, this means Rebels is going to be nicely rounded. Four seasons is more than enough to tell a story.

A post-ROTJ show makes sense for obvious reasons.

And I doubt Vader or The Emperor would care much if at all that Ahsoka abandoned the Jedi Order or that Kanan was never a full-fledged Jedi Knight. To the Sith Lords they're both adherents of the Jedi philosophy and strong Force users who are potentially dangerous. Enemies of the Sith and of the Galactic Empire.

Vader could, of course, fail to kill one or both of them or have a momentary flash of mercy that allows them to escape but I can't imagine that he wouldn't target them for destruction if for no other reason than what they used to be and continue to represent.

Actually I rather think Vader would try and recruit Ahsoka the same way he did with Luke on Bespin.

Ezra may actually end up falling to the dark side. At least they seem to be foreshadowing something in that direction.

Becoming a Jedi is not easy. The temptations of the Dark Side are high. That the Jedi use to spend most of their early lives in the temples was probably to keep them more balanced in the force, with better training, meditation, and the like.

Ezra is far more likely to draw on the Dark Side to get things done. He might not know it, but at least he feels cold after using the Dark Side. The Dark Side is quicker, easier, more seductive. It gets things done now. Got a live problem? Force choke-neck snap, problem solved.

Ashoka might fall to the Dark Side, but she seems to have passed the trails that could have lead her to the dark path. All that remains is Skyguy. She cannot defeat him. His fate is written. But He is interested that she lives.

What will be interesting is seeing shows that take place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. They got about 30 years to play with there. And a lot of old EU stories they can retell using whatever hero characters they wish to fill those roles. Not everything has to happen around the Heroes of Yavin.

(Should this go to the Rebel's thread, and does it need to become more general than just Season One?)

I've heard about the Post-ROTJ show, but not about Rebels completely written already. Is that normal for a show like this?

I've kind of gotten the impression that all of the pre/post-ANH stuff we've been getting is pretty much just them buying time, and keeping the franchise active until after TFA. Once we get to TFA I have a feeling most of what we see will be set either around it or in the time gap between RotJ and TFA.

I don't know Rebels could be used for some slight tie-ins to Rouge One depending on how far along they are timeline wise by then.

I wouldn't mind if Ashoka and the other "Jedi" introduced in the new cartoons worked their way into the future films. It would be a nice nod to this new unified continuity thing Disney is trying on for size.

Actually the concept of Ahsoka showing up as an elderly Togruta in one of the Sequel Trilogy movies has been something I've been interested in ever since The Clone Wars ended and the new movies were announced. We know she's alive until at least the Rebels era and if Vader or some other villain doesn't kill her during this timeframe she could well survive into the post-Endor period of galactic history.

If they do it at all it'll be like the Outrider was in the ANH:SE. Visible enough to you if you know what you're looking for and if you don't it's just another background piece.

I dunno. I think they could give Ahsoka a decent enough role in the movies without really needing to address The Clone Wars TV show. So much time would have passed that anything she did in the past wouldn't necessarily matter to the new stories that they're telling.

I'd love to see an old lady Ahsoka show up at some point.

Because of the amount of time it takes to do the animation, episodes are often written years before they air.

Probably why they can still come out with unfinished but complete stories for The Clone Wars that would put it at least two seasons beyond them being taken off the air.

I'm not sure about the aging-in-carbonite thing. Han was encased in carbonite for just a year and whether his body continued to experience the natural aging process or not you weren't going to notice any sort of discernible difference in his appearance in such a short timeframe. Now, had he been trapped in carbon freeze for years or decades that's a different story.

If carbon freezing in the Lucas universe is anything remotely like cryogenics and suspended animation in the Trek universe then probably not. Han may still have looked the same even 100 years later.

Actually watching his first scenes in ROTJ I've always thought that he gained some pounds while in the carbonite freeze.

Clearly the carbonite feeds him but he can't do any workout.

Incidentally that's also how Jabba got so fat. He was frozen in carbonite for 50 years.

Yeah, Ford does look a little bigger in JEDI than he does in the other films, although he sort of slimmed down again for Temple Of Doom.

Carbonite is actually beer.

That's what Lando exported from Cloud City:

Considering her age in TCW, she wouldn't even have to appear all that old.

We don't even know how long Togruta can live. For all we know they could live for hundreds of years, and she could still be young and able to kick major ass during the TFA ear.
