What Was Your Favorite Special Effect In THe New Movies?

I liked all the scenes in ST09 when the Enterprise arrived in all the wreckage and scraped a bit off the nacelle, I loved all those bits more than most of the Enterprise action in Into Darkness, which were either a bit cheesy, or consisted of it getting sabotaged or getting an absolute pounding.

Im not a fan of the new films at all and think they are not really star trek the way Roddenberry intended but the chase scene with the vengeance is something they actually did right. The effects team does a real good job.

I love the scene where the Nibiru-ans are drawing the Enterprise in the dirt, with ash fluttering around, and the Dirt-aprise turns in the Enterprise and the ash turns to stars and Enterprising Young Men swells and we see the ship start distorting and shooting off into warp while leaving trails behind :)

It's not the most extensive use of effects, but I still like the sequence with the Enterprise and other ships departing for Vulcan
The warp effect itself is probably my favorite SFX from the new movies.

That instaBANG as the ship zaps into hyperspace (lol jk ) is just so awesome.

I loved that. Really creative, great scene, and very Star Trek

I like the transporter sequence. Some fantastic effects overall in these new movies. You can knock them all day long for other reasons, but I don't think you can doubt that the effects are the best we've ever seen in the Trek universe (of course, that's because of the advances in tech).

It's not the most extensive use of effects, but I still like the sequence with the Enterprise and other ships departing for Vulcan, especially the first ten seconds or so, as Enterprise slowly rolls away from the docking position at starbase (it's at the very beginning of this clip.)
Oh yeah, that sequence is fucking stunning. Great piece o' starship porn.

I like the transporter effect
My favorite is in the first movie when Spock beams down to the Vulcan surface. That shot is beautiful.

My favourite FX has to be during the Spock/Khan chase (and all the other San Francisco and London shots). I've always wanted to see future Earth in all it's glory, and here I finally did. Trek's world has never seemed so real.

this!
it's funny because I want to see space and new planets but I also always wanted to see how our earth looked in their future

that scene from the clip though :guffaw: and yet, Sulu 'fail' moment is one of the things that saved the enterprise.

Great scene. That warp effect is so much more believable than the space dust nonsense in STID too.

Yeah the trails were a nice touch.

No love for the pixie dust drive? I love that new effect.

Granted when I saw it in the opening titles I thought the Enterprise had climbed so fast a lot of the water had frozen to the hull causing some of the sheen and the trails were the suddenly blue shifted water vapour trails left behind.

But even so, new engine upgrade = new effect, I like.

Did you realize you typed "enterprising young men swells" in your sentence. I have to say that's probably the worst title for a star trek theme I ever heard. So many jokes have been made about that title and it looks like you accidently made one.:guffaw:
I think it's swell.

...

But the swelling's gone down.

I can't stand it. The effect in ST09 just seemed so much more powerful and realistic. The effect in STID just looked corny, cheesy and more cartoon-like. I found most of the visual effects in STID to be like this though.

I still need a warp flash when the ship disappears into the horizon. I'm a completist that way.

It's funny though that in STID, Enterprise is knocked out of warp by the Vengeance and painfully falls back into normal space with a loud sound effect that sounds plently like the TNG-style warp flash. At least I've got the sound effect back!

I adore the new trails, and actually like that they dropped that stupid sound barrier flash whatever that was far too annoying in TNG.

Hated that since I was 6 years old and saw the first TNG promo on BBC actually. Anyway.

Two things:

1. You quoted Smellmet's post. However, your comments are addressing not his post, but the one he was quoting. Better to quote directly the post on which you intend to commenting.

2. You're reaching much too far for a joke. In the original post, the cue title (Enterprising Young Men) is capitalized (placed in bold above, for your benefit,) clearly differentiating it from "swell," a musical term indicating increasing volume or intensity (which is what is happening in the music at the time being described by Mr. Ferguson.)

One more thing:

I think you need to settle down and stay off the radar for a while. Read more. Stop posting just to mock. Stop bumping up threads which have been inactive for several weeks unless you have something substantial to add to the discussion.

Give some thought to what you're going to say before posting; ask yourself: "Does this really need to be posted here, or am I only posting this for the lulz and to annoy others?" When thinking of posting a new thread, check first (using the Search function) to see whether your topic has already been covered one or more times in previous threads. (Most topics have.) Ask yourself: "Does this really need to be covered again?" (The answer is usually "No.")

Think more.

I've got no problem with trails - I love the TMP/TWOK warp effects the most of them all, but these don't seem like that - it looks like 'magic fairy dust' not an optical light effect, which is what it should be to my eyes, Nemesis made the same mistake also. To me it just cheapens it. I've never much cared for the stretchy effect either, but I can live with that.
