I haven't seen such garbage in a long time.
inb4 class-A shitstorm :guffaw:

My wife and I watched it on friday - On a technical level it's a good (if unexceptional) film but lordy is it dull - endless scenes of people mumbling technical dialogue to each other, when they aren't doing that they are swapping platitudes about love. We just weren't convinced on any level - and my ability to suspend disbelief left me completely when Coop entered up in the Space-time library.

I, on the other hand, loved all the sciency stuff, but all the "love transcends time and space" bs felt so unbelievably cheesy and cheap. Also, the "space-time library" sequence seemed like a really lazy and uninspired (not to mention - unoriginal) way of wrapping things up.

BTW, Casey Affleck shouldn't have been in this movie. His character was a fucking retard, and his delivery made me wanna gut him.

I finally got to see it this morning, and I loved it. Everyone did a terrific job. The winners for me, though, were definitely TARS and CASE. I'm easily distracted by well thought out robot technology, and these two were just awesome. I figure we'll easily have that kind of AI well within in my lifetime.

The science was solid, for the most part, and the technology believable. I loved the musical score, and it really didn't feel like a nigh on 3 hour movie. I can't wait to own it. It was worth waiting almost 5 months to see.

As a general rule, I never buy Blu-rays until they come down to under £5, but I made an exception for this movie, not just because of the quality of the film, but because of the 3 hours of special features.

The film is perhaps not a dramatic masterpiece, but it is a technical masterpiece and the docs on it are fascinating. Particularly the one about creating the music, which was largely done on a single massively complex church organ, played by an exceptionally talented man.

Technically efficient, but cinematically and emotionally dull. Comparisons to 2001 are obvious, but I found that oddly more engaging. It says something when the AI characters (HAL and TARS) are more interesting than humans. Though that's necessarily anything new in cinema.

I watched it on Pay Per View last night.

I liked it even more the second time around. I picked up a few things that I missed in the theater, particularly the dialogue during the Tesseract scene.

And I agree with J. Allen: it did not seem nearly three hours long.

This is one of my favorite movies in a long time.

I haven't seen it. I will do a blind buy this weekend and get it on blu ray.

I guess I just don't quite understand understand why it's cinematically dull.

I mean, I was more excited in that scene where they chase the drone through the cornfield than I was through the entirety of Guardians of the Galaxy. The way that scene was shot and edited, with the music behind it all played a part. But it was also the fact that these characters seemed like real people to me, and that, for once, I didn't know where the scene was going to take me.. I couldn't predict exactly how it would add to the overall narrative. All of these factors caused my excitement to built into utter joy. Seeing this scene made me feel like a child again, watching Spielberg films from those days.

I saw this last night and enjoyed it. I thought the science behind it was pretty interesting, especially involving Miller's Planet orbiting Gargantua. I may have missed an explanation, but why did they decide to go to Miller's Planet first? It seems like out of the three potential planets, the one with a huge time differential orbiting a super massive black hole wouldn't be ideal to relocate the human race to.

You're only saying that because you need to complain about Marvel again. Admit it. ;)

It was the first planet in the system, it's orbit was stable (due to the spinning of the black hole), and she (Miller) had been sending a consitent "go" signal for years (from the crew's point of view). Given what was happening on Earth, they had to consider every possibility.

ETA: meant as a reply to TF.

Even if I hadn't taken another shot (I'll admit it was a cheap shot) that scene I mentioned really made me feel the excitement of watching a movie again.

See, that makes more sense. Don't take this wrong way, but....
Everyone's allowed an opinion. But you seem to always need to take the piss out of Marvel when making your opinions clear. You don't have to like Marvel, hell, you can hate it even. :) But, when you feel the need to complain about it so often, to a lot of fans it can come across as not respecting their opinion, and bashing.

If you had made your previous post, without the shot at Guardians, the sentiment and opinion would have still been the same.

I guess I've seen enough posts in various places where people already think Guardians is a vlassic. Not just a fun film (which I guess I'm fine with) but a classic. Before the oscars, I was hearing fanboys talk about it's Oscar chances. This is a film directed by the guy behind Scooby-Doo, but when Marvel stamps their logo on it, it's suddenly goes form being bad to being great.

Interstellar was a film that I'm not sure I actually liked; meaning I don't know what I think of the Mann subplot or the ending or the planets or the "love is quantifiable" stuff, .. but damn.. the movie was bold and feel that even the "riskiest" is so very safe.

Oh, I can agree that GotG is not Oscar material, but I don't even take the Oscars seriously anymore.

As for Interstellar..... I still need to see it. I find myself both drawn to it, but also a bit hesitant. I loved Nolan's Batman films and The Prestige, but his supposedly greatest classic, Inception, left me underwhelmed. Looked amazing, some thrilling scenes.... but overall....no. And somehow, the trailers for Interstellar gave me that same vibe. So, I'll hold out for a rental or cheap bluray, and see what I think.

I absolutely loved this movie and I've been waiting for the Blueray quite a while. Unfortunately, I forgot that it was coming out yesterday. I guess I'll get it tomorrow. I'll just have to wait one more day.
