What´s your favorite Lost Era novel and why. Which one is the worst?

You may vote for more than just one novel, as it might be difficult to make a decision.

I haven´t read Well of Souls yet, so I don´t know if it´s good.

Deny thy father: the Kyle Riker plot was thin, but I liked the part with Will during his time at the Academy.

My votess go for: One constant Star: DRG III makes me want to read more about the Sulus. And for Night of the Wolves and Dawn of the Eagles. You learn more of the background of Kira, Odo, Ro, Natima Lang, Damar and others.

I think the series as a whole is very strong. The only disappointing book - so this answers the question of which I consider the worst - is Deny Thy Father, and that's certainly not a bad book, just a rather pointless and disappointingly average one. Three of the Lost Era novels - The Buried Age, Well of Souls, and Day of the Vipers - tend to make my "top five" lists.

Hmmm. I'll say The Buried Age is my current favourite. It barely puts a foot wrong throughout. It makes the Trek 'verse seem like a fully realized, fully coherent and well-considered reality. As a prequel, it's greatly successful - seasons one and two of TNG, in all their awkwardness, make so much more sense with this lead-in, in so many subtle ways. It does exactly what a TNG prequel should, and it improves the universe it's working in, rather than merely existing in it.

I liked "Buried Age", too. But more the Picard plot than the main story, Picard as Archeologist and lecturer, how he assembled his future Enterprise Crew, what he did between his commands of Stargazer and Enterprise-D.

I love KRAD's The Art of The Impossible. It's my top choice. Honourable mentions go to The Sunderd, Serpents, and The Buried Age :)

Day of the Vipers was very good. I liked how Dukat & other DS9 characters appeared, but also that the author introduced brand new characters as well.

I have a hard time choosing between "The Buried Age", and "The Sundered".

I haven't read them all yet, though.

Yeah, Cast No Shadow, Vulcan's Forge, Vulcan's Heart, and the Stargazer series all take place in the TLE timeframe. Meanwhile, The Buried Age and the Terok Nor trilogy are only billed as "A tale/saga of The Lost Era."

Buried Age and Serpents are both among my favorite Trek novels ever. Catalyst is pretty good, and it left me really wanting to see more Enterprise C stories. Only Lost Era novels I haven't enjoyed at all were Deny thy Father, which was just dull, and One Constant Star, which is not only pretty poorly done, but also a huge letdown after Serpents.

Cast No Shadow by James Swallow.

I enjoyed Cast no Shadow, too. But it´s not officially "TLE". Nonetheless, I must add "Excelsior - Forged in Fire": how Sulu got the command of Excelsior, Kang, Kor and Koloth and the hunt for the Albino :).

Uhm, most of Forged in Fire takes place before Star Trek VI, so it doens't really fit into the Lost Era, which by definition takes place between the Generations prelude and "Encounter at Farpoint."

Went with the Buried Age as that is the only book off that list Ive read lol....that also happens to be the last book I bought from Waldenbooks before they went out of business

The Art of the Impossible. Despite the fact that I like neither Klingons nor Cardassians overly much, I enjoyed this novel enormously.

I haven't read many of the other entries of the TLE-series (from those listed here just Serpents and The Sundered), but I started The Buried Age quite a few times, but somehow I keep losing interest after the court trial...

I voted Buried Age.

Still got one or two of the 'appreciated' ones to read, bt Buried Age is great !

I'm so glad this is a multiple vote poll as I can't decide between Serpents Among the Ruins, Well of Souls and the Terok Nor trilogy. It's been a few years since I've read any of the TLE novels with the exceptions of One Constant Star (as it's a pretty recent release), Catalyst of Sorrows (re-read it last year) and Deny Thy Father (never read it).
