What Sticks With You?

Captain
Every cold morning, I watch the engine temperature in my truck, waiting for it to warm up. As soon as that needle starts to move, I kick the blower on high.

In my head I hear Scotty: "You'll flood the whole compartment!"

Every morning.

So what from Trek sticks with you as you go about your day?

Whenever I see someone wearing a red shirt, I think, "Well, that guy is history."

I remember at work on a day we had layoffs, the next day one of my coworkers came into work with a redshirt T Shirt.

The scene I think of first when I think of TOS is the Corbomite trick. For Star Trek in general, first thing is Data's mannerisms.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I think of the stealing of the Enterprise scene whenever I'm backing out of a complicated parking situation.

I sometimes find myself saying, "By all means" in a professional environment, inwardly smirking at my Kirk TMP reference.

Humming/grunting "singing" the Klingon fight and attack music in traffic.

Hell yes

While backing out in a busy parking lot:
"All moorings cleared....Clear to maneuver...Thrusters ahead."
I think I've heard something similar from shows featuring ships.
When My friend (who's also a Trek fan) and I went out on his new boat.I said the same thing aloud while leaving the dock. He gave me a dirty look.
Hey. It's okay if you're really in a boat.

YES! When backing out, especially when there's someone else also trying to get out, I mentally replay the Enterprise/Excelsior space dock scenes!

When I worked in telemarketing, every time I put on the headset microphone, my "testing 1-2-3" phrase was simply "Enterprise", as if calling the ship over a communicator.

Whenever there is a dangerous or sticky situation, I think and/or say out loud, "Shields Up!"

For me, it kind of works in the reverse, actually. I don't apply STAR TREK to what I encounter or experience, or whatever. I bring what I experience to the show. For example, in the TNG Episode "Family" when Picard's brother tells him, "... you have a simple choice: living with it below the sea with Lewis, or above the clouds with Enterprise." It reminds me, in the most general terms possible, of the untidy parts of my past. And when Robert puts it that way in this episode, his words speak truly to me. But when I'm not watching the show, it's not like his words are hanging in the air, or other episodes like that are haunting me. There are other episodes like that, too. A lot of episodes in TNG, especially ...

Whenever I am working under my car or in a confined space I flash to Scotty fiddling inside his angled Jefferies tube in Engineering...

There's only a couple of these kinda things for me. First, when I'm making myself Earl grey tea in the morning I will always say either aloud or in my head, "Tea. Earl grey. Hot." Second, the word "engage" will never sound the same to me again. There probably are more that I just can't think of at the moment
