I just watched the serial "Robot". It's like "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" with its anti-pollution, pro-environment message. It's interesting to me that the series went from a positive image of environmentalists in "The Green Death" to a negative image of them in the first two named serials. Clifford Jones' community wasn't interested in the destruction of humans to save Earth; they were seeking a means to save both the Earth and humanity.

I think both "Robot" and "Invasion of the Dinosaurs", though entertaining, are too similar in nature. The former is saved by the robot, who is depicted sympathically, which is brought to life by better vfx. The dinosaurs were terrible.

Poor T. Rex can't get a break from Doctor Who. It is shown to be ridiculously large, as tall as a sauropod in the '70s show and as tall as Big Ben in the '10s.

Just watched the giant middle finger to Thatcherism that has a pink TARDIS, a kitchen, a wandering noir Bluesman, lemonade foot adhesive gambits, very slow go-karts and two men running off together in a spaceship.

Just watched the movie. Classic enough right? I really liked McGann and I thought the TARDIS was great.

What did you think of the incessant "Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon"? I was so sick of hearing that, I never want to see this story again.

McGann was wonderful, and some of the scenes were just pure joy, like when he and Grace are running across the grass.

It was quite a shock to see the insanely huge TARDIS console room that everyone's used to now in the nuWho stories.

This is my first post in the Doctor Who section. With no new Trek, I had to focus my energies elsewhere so I've been devouring DW like crazy the last few months and really refining my limited knowledge of the show. With so much out there, I now know what a novice Trekker must feel when faced with sooo much. But I've been enjoying it all and have watched about 2/3 of the entire canon now.

Watched "Arc of Infinity" last night. While #5 is far from my favorite Doctor, this serial I enjoyed. Being a continuity freak, this one had it all - the return of Omega, Gallifrey, the matrix, little inside references to Morbius, Rassilon, Leela and Romana, Tegan's comeback. Plus to see Colin Baker in a different role was fun. He seemed more comfortable as the "heavy" than he ever did as Doc #6. Add in some intrigue, a death sentance and Nyssa (who I think is very easy on the eyes), and we have a solid, fun serial.

I think its tome for Omega to come back. Let the Master rest for a while. Omega is due to return.

Mindwarp, it's one of the best sixth Doctor stories IMO anda real mind trip. Colin Baker said he asked if he was to play it as though it was a lie from the Matrix, a plan on the Doctor's part or that the Doctor's mind was affected by the mind machine at the end of the first ep. and he wasn't given an answer. Sil and the other Thoros-Alphans were the precursers to TNG's Ferengi. This story also featured Trevor Laird who went to play Martha Jones' father on the new series.

Peri's death was shocking but fit the storyline, it was a bit of a cheat bringing her back in the end.

As much as I like the 6th Doctor, I hated Mindwarp. I didn't like how weird he was acting, I wanted to see a real 6th Doctor story. Peri's end would have worked if they left it as a death, it didn't make much sense to me that she'd randomly marry the barbarian. I also hated Sil in Vengeance on Varos, so he was as annoying to me here as he was there. But, i'm a guy who doesn't hate The twin Dilemma, so my 6th Doctor likes and dislikes are probably a bit different

But King Yrcanos was played by the magnificent Brian Blessed! That makes up for all of what's annoying in this story.

I'm not even sure if this counts, but I stumbled upon the much-maligned "Dimensions in Time" on YouTube and decided to give it a watch.

I went in with low expectations, which were largely met. However, going in knowing that it wasn't particularly good allowed me to appreciate it for what it was-- a charity sketch designed to raise money for the "Children in Need" program, and on that score, it was a success.

In the end, there were some bits that made me chuckle, and it was genuinely fun to see 3, 5, 6, and 7 (with a cameo from 4) and all of the various companions that appeared sharing an adventure even if it wasn't the greatest story. However, the floating busts of 1 and 2 that they used were just creepy.:cardie:

Part of the problem I think with Mindwarp is that after seeing the "Kinder, gentler" Sixth Doctor in "Mysterious Planet", he's pretty much back to being the unstable and unlikable Twin Dillema Doctor for a good chunk of the story. (Although this was part of the story).

The "Death" of Peri scene was pretty good as was the Doctor's reaction. "Lies....I was taken out of time for another reason-and I have every intention of finding out what it is!"

Mindwarp is almost the definition of a Marmite story: regardless of your feelings about the Sixth Doctor and his era as a whole, I've never met anyone who doesn't love it (with reservations) as one of his best, or hate it (wholeheartedly) as one of the worst of all time.
Personally, I like it: partly it's that it lives up to its (non-)title: the uncertainty over what is really happening, and what is fake evidence, or the Doctor playing bad or being delusional is interesting (but should have been resolved at season end).
But also a superb score, some rather good directorial touches, and some good feet-on-the-ground acting from the guests: Trevor Laird does a superb job of giving some feeling of a deadened conscience in the background of what is basically a Chief Guard role, and I love the little moment when Patrick Ryecart's mad scientist pauses to finish his coffee BEFORE responding to the alert sirens...

Mindwarp was sandwhiched between Robert Holmes' last completed story The Mysterious Planet and the somewhat over complicated Terror Of The Vevroids. It in reality the second act or of a three act play. It was well produced and well acted and shocking in it's own way. It's a shame that Peri wasn't better written in her final story, but her death changed the nature of the storyline and set the Doctor on his course to find the true reason he was brought out of time.

y'know I would love to own Earthshock. But they want $93 for it. The Two Doctors is even worse, going for over $200! Most Classic Who episodes are in the 18-30 range - so why are about a half a dozen ridiculously priced? Are they out of print? Will they be reissued?

Sometimes Amazon has some pretty good sales on Doctor Who and/or British science fiction shows. I've got almost all the Classic Who that's available on DVD, and bought most of them on sale.

But you could also try eBay and Bonanza; you might have better luck on those sites.

^ Some are out of print and it's been indicated they won't be reissued. Those that are out of print and are in low supply now command a high price. However, you have to think that at some point season sets will be released. But, nothing official about that has been stated other than that the single story version for some stories won't be reissued.

Actually, I would imagine that is their New/Used section, sold by Private Sellers (Amazon Marketplace).

FWIW, if you have Amazon Prime, you can watch "Earthshock" for free at any time on their Instant Video service. They actually have a fair number of Classic Who adventures available (But not nearly as many as Hulu Plus. That's where you need to go to find "The Two Doctors").

If you don't have Amazon Prime, they offer a 30-day free trial.
