New To Voyager

Janeway's girl: What was your favorite scene from the two parter Workforce?

I lol'd when Janeway replied to Seven's order with "Yes Ma'am." Bit of a role reversal going on there. I also liked when the Doctor and Harry were arguing over who should be in command. Oh and the Janeway/Jaffen scenes. It was nice to see her happy and in love.

I bet you were also happy to see some *gasp* continuity with the appearance of the ECH? :-) :-) I know I was.

They never should have indulged the Doctor in his little command fantasy. Just stick to sickbay, you insipid collection of photons.

Zimmerman said that one of the holograms jobs was to entertain the crew so that they wouldn't go space crazy.

Data searching for his inner humanity was a blockbuster story that every one (Federation Wide?) loved.

It's just a subplot included in the EMH's personality by Barclay to keep the crew sane which is tapped like a logic bomb when parameters believe that it is called for that the crew needs the distraction of helping the Doctor find his sentience and humanity.

Bringing the ECH back once seems more like a stunt, rather than that the status quo had changed where that the ECH might arise in any episode after everything else goes to hell which is my belief in what continuity is.

Let's look at the timeline.

604... ECH dream.
611... Tries out religion.
612... Spent nearly four years living with a girl.
613... Tried to run away and join the opera.
624... The Doctor goes home for an existential crisis with his father.
626... Most of the Command crew is assimilated and he doesn't rise to the occasion.
705... Stolen, press-ganged into slavery by pragmatists.
706... Duped by a smarter Hologram with more hair.
707... Hunted by antiholograhic fanatics who will end him on sight. Tries to boff one of the fanatics (with Seven of Nine's bits and pieces) because she is hot, thus affirming that he is okay with lesbians but screams blue bloody murder when her brother tries to kiss him because boy on boy, in his opinion, is yuck.
709... Betrayed the crew, gave the enemy Voyager's shield frequencies.
715... ECH revealed to he public and used, but only after Voyager has been abandoned by the the rest of the crew, because any fleshie has more right and competency to command the ship than he does. The ECH is a screen saver.
719... Federation confirms that he has no legal rights in the Federation.
723... Ignores the Captains orders, chooses to sacrifice 150 people and the ship to save the Captain for a little while, possibly just minutes or hours. Would the ECH have made different decisions given the alternate core values he needs to be a doctor rather than a Commander?

:)

Methinks that we misunderstood everything about the ECH.

It's not about making him a Starsihip Captain like he thinks he thinks (Quare arbitror ego essem) it's about silencing his inner hippy when shit gets real so that he doesn't hand over the ####ing shield frequencies again the next time that he is morally torn during a firefight.

If the ECH had taken over from the EMH in Renaissance Man, Janeway would have been Executed and Chakotay would have avenged her, but the point is that the ship and the crew would have been safe which were Janeways fricking orders that the EMH was ignoring, and if my guesswork is right, he would have been actively suppressing the ECH protocols from activating either automatically because of the situation or because Janeway was trying to do it manually because the EMH is a hippy and a dick.

Oh.

Dawson directed Worforce II

:)

That means that her job was to yell at Robbie until he kissed her right.

Wow. Voyager really is brilliant.

Reading all that I'm thinking that there is a core tension in Trek between the hippie tolerance deal (Roddenberry, a man of his free love time) and the Orderly and Right Military Command Structure (Roddenberry's childhood romance which he couldn't hold onto because, free love).

Have you tried to watch Andomeda?

The Ships computer won't #### the chief engineer no matter how often he begs, because she's in love with the Captain.

Some really bad episodes, but then there's also excellent world building and inspired character growth.

That is so weirdly illegal.

How much did the Church think that the burned media was worth?

I remember seeing 20 years worth of rugby (at least 60 VHS tapes) out the front of a second hand book shop for 50 cents per unit.

Not too surprised about the price, just the balls.

Of course they could have been entirely ignorant?

(The police do not care.)

If you already like Star Trek, you'll like Andromeda.

Just ignore Sorbo.

The rest of the cast is delightful.

You wrecked it for me, guy. But yes, yes, more like a stunt for a good two part or Renaissance Man would have been very different.

mulgrew wouldn't have Endgame to be proud of but would have been happy pulling her theater skills for the close up dramatized death scene. Story ends in Delta quadrant because Chakotay has no...well you know where I am going.

I don't mind them not getting home but not as Chaks as Captain. He'd settle on a planet to suit his fantasy of stay at home dad tribe leader.

Mulgrew wakes up from her fantasy of dying for her crew to realize Janeway's death was by Mr.Potato.

Writers have no time to rewrite so we get EMH save my mommy captain plot instead. My only satisfaction from that episode was

Well I can't say. I couldn't get the spoiler tag to work. Dumb I guess.

Lol at #706.

He didn't get rights? Did they not pull it? Or did they just do that for the crew's image? ##### I have to watch it again.

They are chockers with boxes of Bali dvd tatt. Poorly photocopied covers with rainbow coloured cd's. Everyone is like 90 years old and if you ever try and tell them something is a fake and doesn't work you better not show your face there for a few weeks because you are a very bad customer. The indignation.

Strike the mommy comment and replace with future love interest. Now that he knows she's hostile and hesitant to give him rights because she's grappling with her allure to holograms. Could you see that? Janeway who thought him a screen saver defends him as her mate in the name of progression, hehehe.

He got "artistic rights" but not "human rights".

If the Federation Council admitted that holograms with fast enough brain functions are people, they would have to remunerate them, award benefits, allow for resignation, offer a promotion track as well as holidays and a fair work week because they have needs beyond being the Federations slave workforce and the right to have those needs met because they are people.

Which would cripple the Federation if the trillions of cooks, cleaners, servants and maintenance staff Federation wide decided that they would rather paint and wandered off to do that... The Federation does not want to be crippled. Being crippled is bad.

Now I understand.

I thought that you meant that the disks were home made.

Right, Right. Smart on their part. Thanks for clarifying.

Really, behind the camera it was just the Gilligan effect.

They can't keep making stories about holographic hardship if there is no holographic hardship.
