Which Potential Guest Star Would Have Killed A ST Episode?

Strange thing is Brian Blessed didn't overact back in the 60s! He started this bizarre behaviour after appearing in the third episode of Blakes 7 in 1978! The part required him to be a religious maniac type (Vargas) and obviously he thought, hey I like this and carried it on!

Wally Cox as Nilz Baris.
Can't agree. She was so brilliant that actually casting her in a role such as Spock's mom would have gone down as genius. The interactions between her and Sarek could have been pure gold.
Bette Davis only because she was too BIG for the small screen. Her sitcom actually had some potential (saw it on Youtube sometime back) but her stint on Perry Mason and Wagon Train, well, it was just sad to see a true legend of cinema having to endure the indignity of plying her craft on that medium.
I do agree with the Larry Storch nomination and would add Soupy Sales. Hell, throw in Ken Berry too.

Wally Cox was AWESOME! He would have nailed either the Nilz Baris or Cyrano Jones parts. Okay, maybe not Koloth so much but even that could have been a fun(ny) casting against type.
I'm imagining they replaced the usual opening credits with the Globetrotters theme and clips of them in action like the mirror universe episodes of star trek:enterprise.Oh, no...not the Harlem Globetrotters' Planet.

Ugh! I would have thrown a brick at the television if the producers had cast Diller or Cox in ST. Oh the horror!!!
How do you go from Diller to Davis? Diller is best know for her stand up persona, which is very OTT and outrageous in all aspects. Davis was a respected actress with ten Academy Award nominations and two wins. While not typical of her roles, I think she could handle "Amanda Grayson".

I don't know what it was about him. I don't dislike him, and he plays his roles well enough...except maybe he seems to play variations of the same character over and over. I guess a lot of actors do that, but it just seems more so with him.

Phyllis Diller could have been a Lwaxana Troi-type decades before Majel Barrett first essayed the character in TNG (which would have made Diller's hiring an example of "ahead of it's time" casting genius).
And what is the problem with Wally Cox? ... The man was the voice of Underdog 'fer chrissakes!
Seriously, he actually had real acting chops and had studied with Stella Adler. He, like so many others, had to fight against type-casting so please do not make the mistake of believing the roles he was generally allowed to play were the only roles he could play. Sadly, we lost Wally Cox way to soon (he was only 48 when he passed away). SALUTE!

Yeah, I guessed as much. Some folks just seem to be pulling names out of a hat where you want to be obscure but not too obscure. Here's one, ZaSu Pitts.
Once or twice, I think, in a bit parts here and there or a Murder, She Wrote episode. I'm with you in so much as I don't know much about him other than he seemed to work in volume in the late-50's to early-70's.
As Cyrano Jones he might have pulled it off, but I wonder what would newbies to ST would say if Cox was in 'Tribbles'....."That's Underdog!!!"
William Schallert played Nilz Baris as a typical bureaucrat with a mixture of perpetual anger and arrogance. I just can't envision Cox matching that.
Willian Schallert is a better actor than he sometimes is thought of. On one Hawaii Five-O I watched recently (the real Five-O
), he played an attorney who was assisting in funneling kidnapped babies into an illegal adoption racket. You just wanted to strangle him, he was so believably crooked and dirt-baggish. Great job!

Actually, more likely Bette Davis would have rejected Trek not the other way around. Bette Davis had numerous TV credits to her name. She even filled in for the title character in the highly rated Perry Mason TV series when Raymond Burr was out sick. In fact, it would have been quite a coup if Trek could have landed Ms. Davis).
Trivia: DeForest Kelley co-starred with Bette Davis in the film Where Love Has Gone (1964) ... a very good film and definitely worth checking out by those who are De Kelley fans
