Star Trek Online Discussion Thread - Delta Rising

Personally speaking, I like that the new challenges in story mode put my ship at risk. I

Me too, wish more of their changes (ever) were like that. Cryptic kinda sucks at understanding this. As you go into more difficult modes, the dream scenario would be for the AI to get smarter, or give the NPCs some flexibility so things aren't so predictable on every single STF run.

Instead, every single time they've tried to up the difficulty, what they'd gone with is just adding a ton more hitpoints to the bad guys, and giving them uber-guns so they can one-shot you even if you had 100% health beforehand. Only positive they've done is when they added timers and limits, and death penalties; that at least made things harder/more urgent. Giving each probe 1 million hit points and super torpedoes doesn't add challenge, just frustration.

And an update on the PVE ques

http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=19998321&postcount=562

Relevant part

Basic Difficulty:
* Hitpoint values @ Level 60 reduced to ~80% of current Holodeck values
* This means that enemies also scale less aggressively as you level up between 50 and 60.

Advanced Difficulty:
* Hitpoint values @ Level 60 reduced to ~70% of current Holodeck values

Elite Difficulty:
* Hitpoint values @ Level 60 increased to ~110% of current Holodeck values

Okay will reserve judgment to see if an advanced que is pugable now.

I used to do 15k dps in ISE, now I am doing 23k dps in ISA. Everyone I've talked to in the dps channel has seen a similar 5k to 10k jump in their dps even at level 50 with no change to their ship gear or character skills and traits. So much so that I'm worried the dps channel's new minimum entry level would be set at 20k dps.

The hitpoint adjustments for Basic and Advanced feels about right for pugs. It would certainly mollify the weaker players who suddenly found themselves outgunned in DR. As for the Elites, 110% isn't enough of a hike in hitpoints when every elite has had a 30-60% hike in their dps.

How do you calculate your DPS exactly?

Because I'm trying to figure exactly how much I'm doing.

Here's the link to CombatLogReader, the standard combat parser used by the dps channels. You'll need Java to run it. Point it at your combat log (Press the "Browse directory" button and find your log file, usually found in Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/logs/GameClient/Combatlog.log) and press the "Read CombatLog!" button.

Next, launch STO and when you want to parse, type "/combatlog 1" into the game's chatbar to turn on combat logging. To turn off logging, type "/combatlog 0" in the chatbar. When combat is over, CombatLogReader should have details on how you and your teammates have performed. You can even drill down to see how much each weapon, each attack power has contributed to your overall damage profile. This allows you to make informed choices on which weapons and powers to use.

Well i fired this up after some time away from the game, looked at it, and realised i would need to go back to school to take a algebra and quantium mechanics class to understand what all the new stuff means. lol

Remember a time when the weapon you had did 200 damage, and the new weapon you picked up does 300 damage, so much simpler times, i am totally lost with the new upgrade stuff, totally over my head, i will just stick with elite runs and my present T5 ships, and leave the advanced stuff to the more dedicated player.

Okay thanks

Except that the Elite stuff is now known as Advanced, and the old optionals are mandatory and there are new optionals. There's a new Elite level where the Advanced optionals are mandatory, L60 and highly upgraded gear is needed, and there are new Optionals added.

Fun STF run in Borg Disconnected this morning. And again I apologize for going into it with only three foreward weapons on my Tor'kaht. The really sad thing is that the one I left out was a mark 13 dual heavy cannon, the rest were mark 12s.

ETA: Also wanted to ask if anyone has gotten a T6 ship, and how are they liking it? I'm putting some serious thought into getting the Qib for my KDF engineer. I think someone in the STF (Alendiak?) had an Eclipse in the STF. There is a surprising lack of discussion of the new ships in the official forums.

I'm such a die hard trekkie, 25 years on from said episode and I still clearly remember little bits of Trek lore.

I played the mission Dragon's Deceit and the instant I saw pink claws, everything instantly clicked and I knew they were the aliens that appeared in an early season of TNG who tried to take over the Federation. I didn't even need Tuvok to explain anything, I instantly knew why the Vadwaur are suddenly so powerful, why certain Vadwaur had special abilities.

I really have to learn to not click spoiler tags. Four years ago, I wouldn't have cared with this game -- every plot development was just an excuse to shoot more stuff. But gradually over the years the story has improved, especially with the Romulan storyline. And I love that Delta Rising made patrol missions as part of the bigger mystery, so that at first they seem like ho-hum routine missions but are pretty integral to the story.

I just finished the mission where the Vaadwaur agree to meet at Neelix's colony. I'm still angry.

Yeah that was a big oh crap moment.

None of the T6 ships look cool for me (at least the sci vessels don't look that great). I'm still debating on whether or not I want the Advanced Research Retrofit or the multi-mission surveiliance vessel. (The universal stations are the main deciding factors).

I won't start the Delta campaign until I get my ship, and upgrade my phaser 2 and...stuff.;)

Loving the story arc on Delta Rising! Just finished it off, so I ran here to discuss it in a place with Spoiler Tags!

I'm so happy to see Harry got promoted, but 30 years after VOY and he is only a Captain? And he only has a tiny Nova class science vessel? And it is named after the smallest state in the U.S.? Why does everyone hate Harry so much?!?

It was awesome to be running around in game with the VOY crew though. I also laughed at how Harry, Neelix, and Tuvok are all aged appropriately in the game, but they didn't add any wrinkles to Seven. I got some great screenshots of my Captain on the bridge of Voyager. :D

So on to my spoilery comments / questions.

When the Vaadwuar created that chemical that prevented their fallen soldiers from being reanimated as Kobali, was I the only one that was pissed off because I could NOT get my Science Officer to get me a Hypo spray of that stuff, like, STAT!

Those Kobali are bloody ghouls. Oh, big fight going on, and you will run the hospital ships, huh? GET ME THAT HYPO SPRAY NOW!

So they left us with a total "OMG, WTF" bit of a cliffhanger.

I assume that that was the body of the real Harry Kim, since the Harry Kim (and Naomi Wildman) kicking around the Trek-Verse is actually a duplicate from another universe.

I am also assuming that the Kobali talking to him was (Or used to be) Lyndsay Ballard. I am DYING to know the story behind how they recovered that body.
