The Walking Dead Season 5

My one completely arbitrary & pointless gripe of the episode is this:

Carol: We're friends of the chick with the sword & the kid in the hat

So apparently you're familiar with it. So then why the hell didn't you take 12 seconds & pick out the sword when you grabbed the crossbow? It couldn't have been far & it sticks out like a ruby in a pile of glass. That's just mean. Carol's mean now.

& before anyone climbs down my throat, you all know you were thinking about it too. Don't deny it I'm surprised it didn't get brought up on Talking Dead

Her sword was in the bag of weapons that Rick buried.
He even describes it right down to the handle. Right before he said something like I'm going to use it to kill you.

I'm pretty sure he said it was a machete. I think Michonne had to put down her sword when forced to enter the train car.

That was a great premiere. Lots of great action, and we got to see what Terminus's people really are.
I loved Carol here, she's become an awesome badass. We also got some interesting development for Tyrese. I saw some people up thread wondering if he really did kill the guy. I think he probably did, since IMO at least, it would have made that whole storyline pointless if he didn't, and I would rather not see that happen.
It was nice seeing the whole group together again. It was nice to get the episodes with the characters split up, since it gave us a chance to get a more detailed look at the specific characters, but when it comes to shows like this, I like it better when the whole casts are together.
I'm curious what role the Terminus people will play the rest of the season, because the guy who plays Gareth is a regular, and the previews had scenes with him or his people that weren't in the episode.
I missed the post-credits scene. I wish they had done something to let people know there was going to be one. Agents of S.H.I.E.D. always has an extra bit at the end, but they also say something about how they'll be back or return or something along those lines to let you know it's not completely over yet.

Right. I mean people a mile away are chatting on hand sets about how she's the chick with the sword. She had it on her & pulled when they told her to drop it. The Termites called them out by archetype. Ring leader, Archer, Samurai, & boy

Yep. Nothing but a bunch of opportunistic cannibals who put on a 'nice' face to lure people into their town. Glad Rick did what he did to the sign to warn others of Terminus' real goal.

I did too. It was good to have everyone back in one spot and not separated. Hope that they're able to stay together for awhile now. But I'm not counting on it, given the fluidity of the situation.

Is he actively refusing to learn, or is he just admitting his incompetence? Refusing makes him a distasteful character; incompetence is just a necessary evil for the group to deal with.

Besides, wasn't he the one who pushed to go find Glenn's group?

That was probably just a way to put off getting to Washington where he will have to deliver his "cure" information. If he actually had information like that, he would write it down to make sure that it would get to Washington even if he didn't. He's a FAAAAAAKE!!
I bet he makes more attempts to stall along the trip, the closer he gets to Washington.

Even if it's complex. Even if it's dangerous. Even if it's truly beyond the comprehension of anyone left, you still write it all down, & share it with as many people as you can. If he had any kind of knowledge that could preserve the human race , & he was a decent person, he'd be writing the damn gospel of the zombie apocalypse. He'd become a prophet, a master educator of whatever the hell he knows & knows how to do.

Glenn, Rick, Carl, Carol, & Daryl all met the CDC guy. They got the STRAIGHT dope. If this guy is passing on the ignorance of the general populace, then he picked the wrong crew to hang with. At least that's the way it should play out

I was part of a ten person team at the human genome project to weaponize diseases to fight weaponized diseases. Pathogenic microorganisms with pathogenic microorganisms. Fire with fire. Interdepartmental drinks were had, relationships made, information shared. I am keenly aware of all the details behind failsafe delivery systems to kill every living person on this planet. I believe with a little tweaking on the terminals in D.C. we can flip the script. Take out every last dead one of them. Fire with fire. All things being equal, it does sound pretty badass.

This is his one and only claim to a fix thus far, & even if it's true, it's not a cure. It's a weapon he's talking about designing. Reverse engineering ("Flipping the script") a human life destroying weaponized pathogen, to attack the undead instead of the living, which he claims he can distribute via a failsafe delivery system

Even in the unlikely event that he's being 100% honest, he's still got nothing but a pipe dream, and the way it came out, it all just sounded like utter bullshit, from a dork who reads science magazines.

It sounds more like "I subscribed to Omni magazine and read a lot of science blogs/articles," than "I have the experience and education to end the apocalypse. And I'm the ONLY one."

And, yeah, the "It's classified" thing has to be running thin and I wonder how it is Abraham has bought it for however long he's known Dr. Mullet. I mean at some point it DOES come down to, "Classified to who?! At this point are you really concerned one of us is going to run off and sell this information to the Russians? Does military protocol and procedures even exist anymore? Just give us something!"

I re watched the episode last night and his explanation/non-explanation about being a bio-warfare resersarcher where essentially the cure is to eliminate the zombies using bio-warfare doesn't seem like a, "cure," to me.

Even if you take his credentials at face value - which IMO still remains very dubious - all his cure is, is a way to wipe out the existing walkers. This fails to solve the larger problem that the living are still infected.

The surrounding foliage has grown over the sign a bit.

I’d like to know who marked the trees? Does Morgan know the person or is he just following? And WHAT has happened to Morgan that he’s out of his clear state?

I enjoyed the episode with the exception of the pre-credits sequence. I honestly thought the show was a parody of itself. They kill all the redshirts, but our heroes are saved, not by ingenuity and wits, but sheer luck. Ouch!

Yes, hope for the best... but plan... for the worst. You save people if you can & if they're worth saving. You help or welcome people as much as you can until they prove to be unworthy of it, and you (All) fight people when you have to protect yourselves and what you have. A vast variety of people out there will fight & kill for what you have, without any consideration for who you might be

The line is nearly gone now. They'll eventually be standing toe to toe with a group that is similarly as righteous or just as their own, with the choice of "us or them" hanging in the balance. The whole point behind the Termites' history was that they'd once been righteous, & threw in the towel on that.

"Our" group has done terrible things too. They've been brought to similar dark precipices and a few have leapt into darkness from time to time. There will be less and less separating their conduct from their adversaries'. A welcome can be given, but trust is earned. That I didn't kill you is the beginning.

Glenn is apparently the new voice of righteousness, & the ground he's standing is that you don't take to the detriment of others, you aid as much as you can, and you only kill people when you have to. The question is... How do you define "Have to"?

Glenn was defining it as imminent danger & threat. We kill to get free, or keep from being harmed. Once they were out though, & the imminent threat was gone, they stopped. Rick was thinking about the threat those survivors continue to pose. If you don't wipe them ALL out, you are asking to be ambushed at a later time, & I think he might have been right in this case.

If nothing else, they should have rounded up any remaining survivors who surrendered, and killed those that didn't. Then you can appeal to them in a civilized manner as to whether you will allow them to go, stay or die. Everyone seems to agree that they'll regret not doing so

But that scene showed the Termites' modus operandi and how far gone they are mentally. And not surprised that Hippie Sam didn't fit in with them.
I always like to think that I wouldn't make it easy for someone to kill me, like staying at the trough just waiting. It has been said that if the French nobles hadn't gone to the guillotine so bravely, the whole French revolution "final noble solution" might have ended sooner if there was crying and begging and screaming at the scaffold.
Being zip-tied didn't allow for much opportunity to fight back, I know (unless you had a shiv in your boot). If I'd been Glen, I'd have been wiggling down to the other side of Rick at least. Very shocking episode.

WOW! I LOVED the season 5 premiere! Best TWD season premiere since the pilot!

I was VERY worried they would drag out the Terminus storyline and spend the entire first half of the season there with the main characters as prisoners. That would have gotten boring quick. So glad they got out in the first episode of the season. I don't give a crap about the Terminus residents, and no amount of flashbacks will make me care. They are butchers, pure and simple.

That opening minutes execution scene was one of the most intense scenes I've witnessed on television. I can't believe we got another huge walker herd action scene so quickly after the episode with the fall of the prison. The writers and producers really went all out on this episode.

Loved the reunion scenes with Carol and the group, and the Grimes family with Judith.

Carol is such a badass! Glad Daryl's crossbow was recovered, and I see Michonne finding a new sword very soon.

Those Neilson ratings for this episode is amazing and well deserved! TWD has truly become a phenomenon!

I was worried about it too, glad that they didn't drag that along. It would have drove me nuts . They're butchers, and I don't need to give them anymore screen time than what we've gotten, along with any future battles against Rick and the others.

Maybe, but they'll have to fight him to the death for it. It'll probably be a pretty close match. Hopefully they can take him down as fast as they can before he can bring more reinforcements.
