The Bazran Wormhole would qualify because ultimately it doesn't matter but the characters are concerned about/seek it.

Nobody "wants" the Prime Directive. It's a complication, not a MacGuffin.

V'ger is also an example of a problem and complication.

Why is this so difficult to grok? ;)

^ Since they appeared in more than a few episodes and actively participated in events, I don't think they count as MacGuffins.

I'm not suggesting that the PD is generically a MacGuffin, obviously it's an important marker of Federation philosophy, procedure, and the rest and is frequently quite a tangible plot element. However in certain episodes it effectively might act as one, turning out ultimately to have been trotted out as seemingly integral to the disposition of the tale but ending up as an empty suit surrounding the actual focus of action.

An idea in search of evidence that others might suggest, I guess, to make it perhaps a little more diverting to consider, if not exactly compelling, apparently.

Although I initially voted for red matter, it occurs to me that RM isn't a MacGuffin -- a MacGuffin is an object of implied value, the pursuit of which drives the plot. Red matter is just a handwave.

In other words, people just voted for the nuTrek thing because it's nuTrek despite an entire thread of evidence it doesn't even belong in the poll.

Well done, TBBS.

Next we should vote for our favorite Star Trek movie! Mine is Montreal!

wait wait wait!!!...I submit a last-minute sure fire Usurper to the MacGuffin Winner...so sure I am quivering with anticipation...

Wesley!!!!!...he fits ALL the criteria...

Judges?

Nah, nobody SEEKS Wesley.

Now, wait just a Jeffries Tubed minute!

His Mother Does...
The Traveler Does...
Um...hang on...uh....somebody else must..ah ha!...the Baldish Asian Guy helping him play dominoes with the Iso-Linear chips in "The Naked Now" does...!!!

^^ @Mojochi.
No, when Wesley and Shimoda are in Engineering and Wesley has locked them in with his little tractor beam school project...the chips from the Command Computer...

Wait! I'm changing my vote from Montreal to Banana flavored Jelly Beans.
