Bolivar Trask is a person I've heard about while reading X-men comics, but I know very little about him. I do remember seeing a version in the 90's animated series, and...honestly, it would make no sense for Peter Dinklage to play him. Is it weird, or make sense, that Peter Dinklage would play him? I don't really care and its fine if thats what is happening, but I was under the impression that Trask was a normal sized guy (he was in the cartoon) so it seems a bit weird that Dinklage would be playing him.

Why? Is there an intrinsic about his height to the character?

    I mean it's Peter fucking Dinklage ?

Do you actually like anything? I've never seen a post from you on any subject that's not a dig - is there nothing you get any joy from? nothing?

Hey, I never said it was a bad idea. Just so you know, I've made several positive posts about this movie, in this thread. All I was asking was if his casting made sense to people who knew more about the character. I don't personally care about his height, and I don't think its a bad thing in this situation. Now, if they recast Cyclops as Peter Dinklage, then I'd say it was stupid casting. It just seemed unusual to cast him as Trask, just based off the little I know about the character. My post was not meant to be negative, and looking at it its hard to see how someone could even take it that way, outside of just assuming I'm always mad/taking shots at everything, which just isn't true. Outside of JJ abrams and Nolan based Superhero movies I'm actually not all that negative in general (there is always exceptions, but those two things are really the only things that I tend to rant over). It was an innocent question about what people more knowledgeable about Trask than me thought about the casting.

Yeah, being unusually short doesn't disqualify Dinklage from playing Trask. That'd be just moronic. The bloke is clearly a great character actor and I look forward to seeing him in the role.

I was actually pleasantly surprised when it became apparent that Dinklage *wasn't* going to be playing a mutant. It actually feels appropriate that they've cast someone who's condition usually restricts them to playing fantasy type characters (aliens, goblins, miniature clones etc.) and given them a role that (presumably) has nothing to do with it. Given the themes of the X-Men franchise, I wonder if theyr'e making a point with this? Either way, bravo!

I'm fine with him in the role, I was just wondering if it was more than just casting a shorter person in an unusual role and actually was relevant to the character. He seems fairly popular (I've never seen him in anything, I checked his work on wikipedia) and I'm sure he'll do a good job with whatever he does. I'm just not that knowledgeable on Trask, so I was wondering if it had any special significance. Its fine if it doesn't.

There would be symbolism and motivation added to the character. Having someone of his size creating the huge Sentinels.

That would just back up the idea that Trask is involved in the film, which would be unsurprising for a DOFP adaptation. But it doesn't point specifically to Dinklage playing Trask.

If they reboot X-Men Dinklage should play Wolverine.
As for the Cyclops comment, what is so stupid about that idea? Are you saying a little person shouldn't play a heroic character like Cyclops?

Yes. Because Cyclops is a tall, athletic young man and a world class pilot. His character is not appropriate for a dwarf actor anymore than it would be for a morbidly obese actor or a ridiculously tall one.

When I saw Dinklage was in the cast I thought he was going to be Puck.

Note - 'seem to back up.' I didn't say definitely confirms it. Some of us don't see things in black and white.

Anyway, here are some more pics from the shoot, including Erik and Charles doing their Led Zeppelin impression and Peter Dinklage dressed as a 70s porn star. He does look like a business man of some sort which I again think seems to suggest that he might be Trask or some sort of industrialist.

Perhaps he's Larry Trask if not Bolivar. Larry was a mutant who possessed pre-cog powers IIRC, and accurately predicted the assassination of Robert Kelly. I believe Larry Trask is also responsible for Havok's containment suit as well. Also interesting is that Larry Trask has a connection with Quicksilver :)

Thats what I mean. I think everyone should have the chance to play different roles. There can be heroic characters played by small people. that said, sometimes people just don't fit a role, and its because of physical attributes. A small person really can't play cyclops in a serious movie. A fat person can't play Reed Richards either, and a white guy would probably not be hired to play Black Panther. You can tweak characters sometimes, but there are limits.

Thats completely different. I never said I don't dislike other stuff. I gave Farscape a very fair chance, and it has a lot of positives. I don't go off on Farscape like Abrams or stuff like that. I'll mention I don't like it sometimes, but I don't rant or anything. It had an ok first season, and it had some great moments and characters. It also had writers that make George Lucas look skilled and characters so stupid they were basically female Jar Jar Binks characters. The way I feel about farscape is completely different then the blinding rage I feel about things like the JJ abrams movies that makes me rant about them.

Not an original thought, but I wonder if they'll stick with the comic's story-line of preventing a president's assassination, or will they keep it with Kelly, since in the movies, he's already dead?

It might be interesting if the real purpose is to prevent the events of the first film from ever happening.

Of course if that were the case then why go back to the 70's? Oh well.

maybe the timeline of the original films is what occurs *after* they change history.

Perhaps they'll use Vaughn's idea of Magneto being responsible for the "magic bullet" to trigger the construction of the Sentinels. The main story in present time seems to take place in 1973 but perhaps the film will open with this as a sort of prologue?

^Interesting, but I don't see Erik thinking that with Kennedy out of the way, mutant-kind would benefit so much more having LBJ in the White House instead. The "provoking a war between mutants and humans" angle wouldn't work since at that point the existence of mutants is still technically a secret and they are in no shape to win. Indeed, it's not until he had the numbers AND the walking nuke that was Jean Grey on his side in X3 that he even attempted to match human forces head-on.

Plus, if Magneto wanted Kennedy dead, he wouldn't use a "magic bullet." He'd just float out into dealey plaza and fold the motorcade in half. The man does not know the meaning of the word "subtle". I mean his wardrobe alone... ;)
