Considering that making magic red matter canceling stuff probably needs technology that wouldn't be invented for over a century, no it's not easy.

They don't have any red matter it all went up with Nero.

I'm thinking Spock secreted some away. In a cavity.

He better hope a black hole doesn't open up in his black hole. That could be messy!

You see... this is exactly how the trouble starts. You're working on a Star Trek film. The scene isn't working. You need somebody to distract an army of alien bandits, while Kirk & Spock steal their horses.

A softly spoken voice at the back of the room, idly jokes "Why not get Uhura to do a fan dance? Naked."

Be here in a decade or two when a new forum is opened for the rebooted Trek. The howls will be glorious, especially if Enterprise is still canon.

I'm reminded of the old DS9 Millennium trilogy of novels, where Worf tells of enormous Klingon fleets which were built and slingshotted around the sun, with a mission to conquer Earth in the distant past. They were never heard from again, and there was debate as to whether they were destroyed while attempting the time travel, or whether they succeeded but in a branching alternate history. And this was written nine years before the Trek reboot!

The Millenium trilogy gave me a headache, enjoyable though it was

:techman: What would this BBS be without fanwank BS? Half the reason I come here...

*realizes BS is three quarters of BBS and smiles*

Wasn't that in the comic books? ;)

    :guffaw:

Thoroughly enjoyed Millenium.... thought it would have made a great feature film, had DS9 gone that route.

My point is that what it means to be Vulcan changed significantly through the course of the various films and TV shows and IMO the race came out worse for wear. I'm less hung up on the emotionless vs emotionally suppressed topic than I am with the fact that as we move forward in real time, Vulcans are increasingly seen looking down their noses at humans. T'Pol was the ultimate representation of snotty Vulcan. Moreover, Enterprise attempted to reboot the Vulcans in season 4 via a healthy revolution. That was also welcome. I don't think every Vulcan must behave like Spock, but when most representatives of the race demonstrate an asshole superiority complex, it's time for a change.

Resetting the Vulcan race via the destruction of their world and the fresh start on New Vulcan, especially with Nimoy-Spock in charge, gives me hope that Vulcans can and will become again the ally mentor race we last saw in First Contact.

Love that avatar of yours Ryan8bit.

Narada began the alternate timeline by killing off Kirk's father--not by destroying Vulcan, so time travel of the more usual type could still be in order.

The Narada began the alternate timeline just by showing up in 2233, before killing anyone.

The fact there was a "lightning storm in space" near the Klingon sector of space - for want of a more better description of the phenomenon - was its beginning perhaps?

A divergence, whereby observers in the original universe notice that, but nothing happens while readings are being taken and so eventually they move off. While in another that branches off, because the Narada emerges and all hell breaks loose.

Something to close the rift should do it. A message to the past, requiring the U.S.S. Kelvin to fire a beam from their deflector dish.

Unless like the presence of the Narada, it's the phenomenon which exists in one universe and not another. So the U.S.S. Kelvin never diverted from their course, to go check it out.

Yeah I could totally see the Kelvin's crew screwing with their deflector just becuase some guy shows up and tells them they can make it fire some technobable bulls@#t beam that can do anything to close a space rift into the two seconds before Nero shows up instead of locking the person up for clearly being some kind of nutjob.

Maybe if Captain Kirk told them, without rolling his eyeballs into the back of his head? I imagine Robau wouldn't take kindly to that.

I think they should have Capt Picard travel to the JJ verse to retrieve spock prime and restore the timeline.

But if you believe there was no split and alternate reality, there is no post-Nemesis Picard to come back and rescue Spock. He never existed...

Just ignore ST '09 altogether. Romulus was not destroyed by an impossible Warp Speed Supernova, and the Future Spock in the movie is from the future of this alternate timeline. He's not Prime Spock. He's future Alt Spock meeting younger Alt Spock.

Or... hear me out... you could realize that it is a TV/movie franchise and things change as creators change...

Exactly! And that is why you can ignore it. Hopefully the elimination of the Warp Speed Supernova will be among those changed things when a new team replaces JJ's! ;)

Only if you plan on ignoring the other seven-hundred hours of mostly bad science that preceded it. :p
