A fucked up girl with a destiny?

    An angel?

    The harbinger of death?

    A pigeon?

One of the truly great characters in all of Battlestar?

I vote for the latter, whatever the hell she was.

    God... who frakkin' knows?

Really wish the finale had provided us with a more definitive answer.

My theory: One of the head angels, but in a different way. The higher being who apparently doesn't like to be called God must have used her for this purpose after she died. Therefore it re-created her and her viper and copied her memories into this new Kara and sent her on her way.

So to summarize, just a tool this higher being used to fulfill its plans. She was only as real as it needed her to be. The real Kara died on the first Earth.

She's the Gandalf of BSG. Brought back from the dead to fulfill a purpose, then to disappear into the mist when her job is done. I'm OK with that and nothing more.

Ok, here's my super cheesey interpretation:

She's the angel that Adama put at the bow of his little model ship. It really doesn't matter *what* she is. What matters is that she brought us home, and in doing so, brought us to our end (death / "herald of the apocalypse" ... same thing).

Ultimately my interpretation of the show? It's about a woman dying of cancer.

Laura is diagnosed in the first few minutes of the series, and dies in its waning few minutes. I think the show is really just about death, and, by extension, life. And Kara is the sort of constant in all of that.

Disclaimer: I've nearly finished a bottle of wine. The above may not be coherent.

Exactly. I liked her character ending too. They were in an open field, she clearly disappeared and had a realization about the true nature of herself. Just because we don't know the details of this doesn't mean her character didn't come to a conclusion.

The real Kara died in the Maelstrom. "God" must have dropped her body off at the Cylon-Earth to lead the fleet there.

Kara was an Angel, she led them to their end and then she went to join Sam.

Whatever you want to think she was, you're right. They didn't tell us.

 Exactly. It was a copout. I aways found the whole god thing funny since RM tried to be so realistic during the show. No aliens, no wierd phenomena, etc.(not to say religion isnt realistic but it just felt forced in this last ep) I was hoping that the god thing was just a metaphor.
