A shame there isn't more money to restore these beauties and turn them into museums....or at least floating shopping malls.
The Intrepid is a museum in New York Harbor now. And they have a Star Trek exhibit running through October. https://www.intrepidmuseum.org/
^ And that's cool. But the Ranger might be the last non-nuclear carrier that could have been repurposed.
It would have been cool to repurpose the ship as a museum, sort of like the Intrepid or the Midway. And I would have loved to see a Star Trek exhibit on the Ranger, as it would have been very appropriate. But, those suckers cost tons of money to maintain every year. The cost just to bring it up to the safety standards to be a museum in the first place would be more than it could bring in, let alone the cost of maintaining it. Sadly, museums in general have still not recovered from the recession of 8 years ago.
