It just irks me so much because they just went with 1017 as a rearrangement of 1701, whereas 1710 would have worked as well (or 1707 or 1717 or anything). 1017 is just as bad as if they had gone with NCC-0711.

Wow, I didn't expect to start so much of a discussion up.

OK, guys, a decision to make. :)

Here's the two versions of the back end of the Nacelles that I am thinking about...

I like the one on the left, better, but the one on the right is pretty unique. Which one should I keep?

I prefer the right side style.

Texture the one on the left like you did the one on the right. :)

hmm, not a bad idea. I think I'm going to run with that.

    MadMan1701A -

Great work, and I love the idea behind it.

But: do you think you could take one of your nacelles and model it aft-end up in the hand of Apollo from "Who Mourns For Adonais?"? And then maybe make an energy beam about the same diameter as the circular area on the aft of that nacelle, extending from that point out to a distance somewhere around 3 or 4 times the length of the nacelle?

Red, blue, green, or some other color for the energy beam - I'll leave it up to you.

::USS_Triumphant ducks the things being thrown at him, tries to sneak away quickly:::

Ha :) . That definitely wasn't the direction that I was intending to go in, but now I see it.

Well, I figured I would stick with the 'left' design, and I worked some on the front domes... again, trying to bridge the gap between Kelvin and the TOS Enterprise...

And with that, I think my lightsabers, I mean nacelles, are done. :)

Just got back from being out of town, so even though it's too late, first thing I thought when I saw the right nacelle was "Hey! I have a led flashlight that looks just like that!".;)

    Madman,
Love the style of the whole ship and envy the skill. Just one thing sticks out to me. The cowls on the front of the nacelles. I keep getting the impression of "padding" under them. Like an upholstered chair. it's the way the creases are handled between each plate section I think.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Something weird happened with the smoothing... when I put textures on it, I'm hoping that will go away.

About the flashlight thing... that's what I was thinking of when I built it. :) I guess it was a little too obvious.

    EDIT:

I seem to have fixed it, by goofing with the autosmooth settings...

hmm.. I know it's more work, but those really should be translucent, with some good lighting within the domes to give them the color and weight. They look like safety caps on a toy gun. :)

Oh, yeah, they'll have some textures on them, to make them look better. The red is only temporary.... I meant that the modeling was done. :)

Very nice work... I'm glad you went with the engine end caps that you did... the alternate version made it look like a giant LED flashlight.

Have you given any thought to using the wonderful caps and interiors from your "uss retro" nacelle here?

    Hey everybody...

I'm back, after being out of commission for a while. I had been in the hospital with appendicitis a little over a month ago, for 3 days... they thought they had cleared it all up with antibiotics, since I was feeling really good. Well, it flared back up, so they took it out this past Wednesday, and did some poking around to look at other organs to make sure everything looked ok ... apparently everything did. Anyway, I've been pretty sore, and just today felt like getting back into this.

So, here's what I have so far... I think I have the secondary hull figured out pretty well...

What do you guys think? I tried to go with the kind of shape on the Kelvin, but make it a little fatter, for extra capacity.

    More updates soon...

Looks good. The only thing I'm iffy on is the shuttle bay landing deck.
