The two brightest planets in the night sky Venus and Jupiter, and somewhat dimmer Mercury, will appear as a bright triangle of light in the western sky beginning about 30 minutes after sunset on Sunday the 26th of May.

Even if you live where there are city lights you should be able to see it. Unfortunately Seattle's current cloud cover will probably prevent my viewing, but I'm still hopeful.

This will be the last triple conjunction until October 2015.

Take a few minutes and walk yourself outside.

Managed to get a great picture of the planets and sunset despite the amount of clouds last night. Will be posting a picture later on.

So, while we were clouded out last night, we still had a pretty good shot out of it and the planets are there. You do have to hunt for them.

Then tonight we tried again. No clouds:

I've been practicing with astrophotography lately and tried to see if there was an aurora nearby so on Saturday at 10pm (remember that time, very important) in the middle of winter (also very important) I took a 20" exposure shot at ISO800. It was dark, no sun, the only light coming from the full moon.

Below is the image I got. Note the stars visible in the 'blue' sky...
