I don't remember my first single.

I do remember my first album (yes, album).

It was Candy-O by The Cars.

Still holds up today as a great one.

The Beatles. I think one side was, "Do You Want to Know a Secret?"

"I think I love you" David Cassidy & the Partridge Family. 1972, I was 12 years old.

Thye first album was Skyhooks' "Living in the 70s". I had others given to me ( eg "Jackson 5", Pink Flloyd Dark side of the Moon, Jon English "Wine Dark Sea"), but that was the first one I bought.

I didn't purchase it, but someone gave me a copy of I want to Have Some Fun by Samantha Fox. What a weird gift to give a kid!

Didn't buy all that many singles. Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction might've been the only one, since I was too excited to wait however many more days until the album came out :)

"ABC" by the Jackson Five on 45, baby. I think "Rockin' Robin" was on the B-side.

Ist CD was "Hot August Night" to replace the vinyl I'd bought in 75 (I think).

I bought many more albums than I ever did singles, but the first single might have been the 45 of Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song" with "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do" as the B-side. About 1971 or '72, this.

I don't remember off hand. I know I didn't buy too many singles, usually vinyl or tapes. The first one that I can really remember purchasing was when I was in my 20's and I believe it was a cover of "Knocking on Heavens Door" by the Sisters of Mercy.

    Nice.

If I showed that to my 15 year old, she'd have no idea what it was...

I was ready to post saying I've never bought a single, but I remembered that last year I bought my first and only single, Shake Ya Boogie, The Remix EP by Mocean Worker.

It's nice to know there are a few of us still around. ;)

Ah yes, I remember it well.

Reminds me of a story. I have a friend who's a high school music/theater teacher. He brought in an album -- a vinyl album -- to share some song with his kids. It was already on the turntable, and he asked one of the students to play a particular song. He said the kid just looked at the turntable, back at him, back at the turntable and finally confessed that she had no earthly idea what to do to start the music. *sigh*

Hammer to Fall is a great song.

I think the first single I bought might have been A Kind of Magic, although I really can't remember now.

The first single I was given was The Birdie Song by The Tweets.

That's shocking and sad. I grew up in the era of compact cassette and CD, and even I knew how to play a record without ruining it when I was 2 years old
