    Oh my.

That cover is, as many have pointed out, beautiful, and the plot sounds delicious as well.

I wonder if it will be following up the plot thread left dangling at the end of the last book.

Did they get someone to make a new model of the Titan? It might just be the lighting, but the proportions look a little different, as does the level of detail from the ones we've been seeing for the past couple of years.

The plot sounds very different from the usual Titan kind of story, which is exploration-focused. Even in Destiny, Titan's role in the plot was about discovering and exploring a remote alien society. This will be the first time ever that a TTN novel has been set primarily within Federation space. Quite a change. I wonder if it will have a lasting impact on the series.

Will do. Bear in mind I have no idea how vBulletin handles a merge, so I don't know which of the two threads will remain as post 1 and title.

Considering the kickoff event in Book One...fair odds to this (relatively) uninformed observer.

I hope not, it kind of feels like the Typhon Pact stuff has started to drag a bit too much into political thriller territory, where every story is starting to become intensely focused on conflict.

What we're getting has definitely been better than the open warfare a lot of people thought we'd be getting when all of this started, IMO.

I really love this cover, and it makes me wish even more that The Crimson Shadow cover was as spectacular.

I guess I'm just echoing everyone else at this point, but I agree, that's one gorgeous cover. And the story sounds really interesting too. Looking forward to it! :techman:

I hope not. I'm really looking forward to this as I loved Swallow's previous entry, but a large part of the appeal of Titan for me is the Strange New Worlds ethos of Trek that has been the focus of the series and is what makes it tick. If the series switched to be another TNG-like take on the franchise, I'd be very disappointed.

I'm guessing (completely uneducated obviously) that this entry is more an "anomaly" for the series and we'll see reprocussions for the crew (a la Destiny to Over a Torrent Sea) that'll spin off into whatever next deep space assignment awaits the crew in subsequent books.

    But what do I know?

I echo all the previous notes : a) mother of Christ that's a pretty cover, and b) bringing Titan back to the Federation seems contrary to the entire point of the series, but then I suppose there's no other way to include them in the overarching storyline (but Destiny managed it, as noted), and I hope it doesn't signal a whole new direction for the series.

Another statement of the obvious, but that cover is beautiful! The last few Titan novels haven't held my interest, but this one sounds promising. James Swallow hasn't disappointed me yet ;)

I really hope I'll get the chance to catch up with Titan during the next few months. I really liked what I saw of them in Destiny, and what I've generally heard about their plots and characters through forum osmosis.

I hope you are right and there is no lasting change.

I think it will be only a nice change of pace for Titan, that has the bonus of sounding like a very interesting story. I really enjoyed the first Titan book and it was set in Romulan space following up on the Nemesis story.

Wowza, what a cover. Brilliant new look at Titan. Not a slight, so much as an observation, but the Luna-class does look a little more like an Akira-class with the "Aztec"ing patterning. Certainly not the same, but just a passing similarity.

Can't wait for this. I've slowed down my reading of late and I'm getting more and more anxious to get to these books.

For me, I'd like a change. Titan back in the thick of the Typhoon Pact events would be way more interesting than yet more 'Strange New Worlds' stuff. Been there and done that over many episodes and more novels. I've lost interest.

In fairness, there's enough scope to cater for everyone already, so I understand why Titan is all about exploring AND why readers want that. It's just that I don't particularly...

    Great cover by the way.

It's a nice cover, but rather on the bland side. I'm reminded of the cover for "Unworthy", just at a slightly different angle and with Titan instead of Voyager. But I would've preferred to have seen a cover sort of like "Idic Epidemic" or "Doomsday World", where it was a montage of images, since I don't think the ship-over-planet really gets people wandering what happens in the story. And with a title such as "The Poisoned Chalice" there really isn't anything the cover that looks like a chalice or even makes a metaphorical tie in to whatever the Poison Chalice is.
