    Say I have a data set and I want to know how many groups to make of that sample. Like 1-20, 20-40, 40-80, etc.

    How do I do that in Excel?

    I think you have to know what you want your groups to be. Or are you talking about normal distributions, or what? Needs more info!

    I'm just looking for a way to combine like datasets that isn't just me abstractly combining like ones.

    For example;
    I have the following data and I want to classify it into groups that are 'close' together. How do I establish those 'close' enough groups?

    It's called clustering. That'll get you started.
