Yeah, it's really sad how Rush is the one behaving more like a competent commander while Young is losing his shit. He's guaranteed a slot in the "worst scifi leaders ever" category thanks to that.

Probably the stuff where they catch Rush framing Young.

Space Part 1: Now this was rushed. If you are going to leave someone for dead but not show them dying you should have at least a few episodes without them before you bring them back in surprise way. At least a few scenes where they struggled with something that they needed Rush for would be nice, but it seems he's been gone about as long as a nap.

It's strange that Young has no trouble walking around as an alien. He could at least stumble a bit?

James is sad.. and alone. Don't you all just want to comfort her :D

Yeah, I wouldn't mind comforting James, because the universe keeps shitting on her.

Hi Teacake, I haven't forgotten about you or SGU, I've just been enjoying Eureka, way more than I expected I would. I can watch at least 3 episodes a night, so I was letting you get a bit ahead of me. I watch these two, plus the next one tonight. I've been looking forward to watching Justice again (See if I still hate Young and Rush both as much, or if I'm able to take sides or at least appreciate the motives of one of them. I have appreciated Rush a little more this time in the 9 episodes so far, but, he's still an arrogant prick I'd want to shove out an airlock in real life if I had to deal with him, which, for a TV character isn't always so bad, as long as you don't feel that way about everybody, LOL.)

Its strange but i missed the episodes where Young acts like a psycho and never got around to rewatching them when i later got the series on dvd. My impression of Young is mainly based upon season 2 which i remmeber most and is quite favourable. I loved Rush from the start but im weird like that. I usually decide i will like or dislike a story or character before ive read the book/watched the show and with only minimal information about them and im very rarely ever wrong. (That is i must have been wrong at some point but i dont remember it so i assume i must have been wrong at some point)

Also Sindatur I just realised you have the exact same name and avatar as one of the members of the Kevins watch forum. Are you the same person or is this a completely random coincidence?

Yes, indeed I am me, Blackhawk made the Avatar for me, he's a Lord in a Blue Robe, with a Staff  I'm honored you recognized me, I'm familiar with your posting around here, but, you have only a little posting activty on The Watch, unless you have alternates there?

You don't remember the episodes where Young is a Psycho? That's like at least all of S1, just that some episodes he shows it worse than others, LOL

I missed a lot of season 1 when it first aired as i was usually working on nights it was scheduled for and we were having trouble with the satellite signal anyhow. So i kept up with it by reading the episode transcripts that got posted on Gateworld. I did that with Stargate Atlantis during my first two years of university just read the episode transcripts provided by Gateworld since i couldnt follow them on tv.

Since i was reading a script rather than watching a performance i didnt pick up on some things as much like the full extent of Young's psycho behaviour and since i had read the transcripts it felt like i had already watched the episodes and what i mostly remembered was the whole earth soap opera issues which i didnt like so when i got the complete series on dvd i just watched the first couple then skipped straight to rewatching the second season conveniently skipping past most of the psycho Young moments :P

And no i dont have alternates on the watch. I joined because the Mordant Need duology is my all time favourite books and Kevins watch was the only forum about it that i could find but the Mordant section seems very quiet and my attempt to read the Covenant chronicles didnt work out so i only visit occasionally and mostly end up lurking rather than posting.

I happen to be at the end of Mordant's Need right now(Terisa just freed herself from Eremis' grasp, and the Domni brothers just walked in expecting to have to save her). I bought Audio downloads and burned them to disk. I had read the first 100 pages of the first book, Gap Series, read it once, listened to it once. Covenant, I've read and listened to a total of abput 4 times, Final chronicles I've read each once through, and listened to them once through. Anxious for the Final Covenant book, in November, but, gonna wait for an audio.

Justice - Yea, still can't side with either of them, nor Camille. Lord, I feel sorry for the folks on that ship, with them for leaders, not of them is fit at this point. Wray and Rush using the opportunity to stick someone in the chair after Young has trumpeted the immorality of it until they learn more was repulsive.

Space - Welcome back Rush. Glad to see the Blues finally show up. It was cool that Young had to save Rush, then the conversation where they both have something on the other at the end and agreeing to bury the hatchet someplace aside from each other. Poor CHloe, it's all downhill for her character from here on out, I believe. She was one of my saving graces early on, she was a relief to have the focus on. Looks like Young brought the Blues into their hemisphere, by leaving rush as a tasy morsel the episode before.

I totally agree that none of the choices for leader were good, but at no point did I really feel Rush wanted anything more than the ability to get people to do things, since the crew was pretty terrible at actually getting things done at that point. He probably would've dumped all the personnel stuff on Wray and the military stuff on Scott ASAP.

Then there's the whole "we don't use the chair, we're totally doomed to die on this ship; we use the chair, we're probably going to kill one person, but we might learn things that could save the rest of us" thing.

BTW, don't take these comments as negative, this is the first time my repulsion at these people has paid off with decent drama from it. I enjoyed these two episodes fairly well. It's a shame they make Chloe increasingly annoying, but, Camille and Rush are finally becoming interesting.

Oh don't worry about the pace of the rewatch Sindatur, I've been totally distracted by power watching Continuum and Orphan Black. It's been good to mix up the rewatching with new stuff.

That's how I felt, finally the pace picks up and real shit hits the fan rather than just a bunch of office wrangling and threats.

Oooh you're just finishing Mordant. Now i have teh incredibly storng urge to start asking a gazillion questions on what you thought of the characters/plot/themes/etcetera. But that would kinda derail this wonderful SGUniverse rewatch thread so instead im gonna start a Stephen R Donaldson thread if there isnt one already just in case anyone whose read any of his books might care to discuss them or express their opinions on them :P

Im also gonna try to watch some of the latter half of SGUniverse season 1 just to refresh my memory and so i can join in your rewatch discussion without worrying that i might have remembered stuff wrong. Hurries off to watch SGUniverse

Okay I'm back, finished Orphan Black and will try not to get distracted from Destiny and its cling-ons.

Divided Part 2: I enjoyed this pathetic little coup with Rush having seemingly blabbed about Young leaving him on the planet after agreeing not to . I enjoyed how he used Wray to get Young out of the way so he didn't have to worry about being airlocked once he knew about the transmitter.

The surgery, like every surgery on this ship, bothered me because NO ONE is wearing masks. Just cut up some of the miles of bed linen on Destiny and sterilize it, geez.

And now I'm looking forward to what happens with Chloe and Scott now that she's sided with the civilians while sleeping with the guns.

Faith: This was interesting. 15 weeks since they left Icarus, it seems a little early to be wanting to give up all chance of stargate travel and settle on another planet. Perhaps the terrible food, leadership conflicts and alien attacks have worn everyone down more that we get to see. Yes the planet feels "safer" right up until the obelisk starts beaming light into space.. that I don't get at all. I would not want to stay there with that unknown. Eleven people? Not enough, and now there are how many left on the planet, 7 or so? This doesn't seem that viable. I find it weird that Chloe wants to stay.

I don't think they all shared that one fellow's belief in benevolent super aliens coming to save them. It does seem to be portrayed as thought they get converted by the planet in some way.

I'm enjoying Brody a lot, he and Park and Volker are a pleasure to listen to.

Rush was a snake for going back on his deal and blabbing, but, I almost think Canille is worse. She already attempted a Coup with the whole suicide situation, using the apparent murder to the fullest to her advantage. Then she screwed it up with incompetence, and Young and the Military had to come to the Ship's rescue and she gave command back with her tail between her legs. She knew Young pulled something, since Rush came back alive after Young claimed he was dead, and then she used confirmation of what she already basically knew to stage another coup, that she once again failed at.

And, yea, the surgerry conditions, LOL, no wonder TJ is only a nurse.

Good episode, but Camille trying to take command is becoming slapstick, tme to move on to another drama or another direction for it. Yes, Young is icompetent and often shows himself to be unstable, but with his staff, they pretty much cover his shortcomings, better than any of the other options on the ship

I don' think the planet necessarily exerted any influence over people, I think it really was the lure of how Paradise-like it appeared, and nobody really thought about how few there were, little to no chance of coupling, lose a few and you lose a large percentage of resources, and then the horrible cold winters that were promised. And on top of that, as you saay, they didn't even really think about all the possible terrible ramifications of their Alien benefactors. It is hard to buy that level of desperation after less than 4 months. It would be more believable if it was a ship-wide decision to want to stay, much better odds of survival with a large group. I would've liked it better if this desperation was shown after more time, or a dilemma for the whole shipload pushing for staying, but, it was better than many first half episodes

The problem is, she's no Roslin. The viewer has no reason to join Team Wray.

Oh yeah it was a good episode, despite the decision not really making huge sense. How many stayed in the end?

The thing with the aliens.. I think alien attacks would have been one of the biggest freak outs for the civilians on the ship and the idea that every time they drop out of FTL something horrible could be there would be wearing. But to choose to stay on a planet that is all about aliens is weird.

I bet they did feel hugely better from the sunshine, eating real food, working physically and sleeping well etc..

(Oh and I think any episode that doesn't involve earth visitation is automatically better.. we're getting more of a feel for how far away they are now.)

You have to remember though that this decision came on the heels of the revelation that there are now aliens trying to kill them and take their ship, plus there's also the spiritual element of it. That planet was perfection, yet could not have been native to that star system, couple that with the astronomical odds of them happening upon it by chance, and it must have seemed like it was put there for them.

^But even if it was put there for them, to what purpose was it a benign reason or a more sinister reason?
