I am more hardware focused but I would love it if they came out with an exotic alien figure line- I would really like to have a Tholian on my desk...

I'm a tech-head too. I think the popularity of this ship run is that they're doing many ships that nobody has ever done before in any scale, and at a relatively decent quality for the price. There's a big market for that that's been waiting to be filled and people are buying them by the droves, which is why they seem to keep expanding the line beyond what was originally announced.

The problem with figures is that there are now more of them out there, thanks to the various runs by PlayMates and other brands over the years. Almost every single character and every single uniform variant from every movie and TV spinoff has been done. It's cheap and easy to do, as they can reuse and repaint common body types while only changing the head for uniqueness. The only thing they're missing are the companion magazines that might give some historical/biographical information - all of which you might already easily find at Memory Alpha online.

It is for these factors that I would surmise is why Eaglemoss says that doing character figures is "not ideal".

Good points, but nowhere can you get a definitive run of characters from across the franchise in the same style/scale e.g. the Playmates line never included Enterprise nor figures from First Contact and Insurrection in the standard 4.5" scale (and no Nemesis). Art Asylum didn't include Voyager or Enterprise and just focused on variants of the crew continually.

Plus, the Playmates line was pretty cartoon-y looking. The figurine scale would be great for getting decent sculpts. And we'd only have ONE Kirk; ONE Riker and so on - meaning we could get a lot more secondary characters in the line.

But perhaps I am just one of the rare non "tech-head" fans...!

There was an article I read years ago that stated that the problem with the business is that once you run the main items (for example, a Millennium Falcon) on a large production scale, the market becomes saturated and you end up moving to other ships that are lesser known, and in far weaker demand. The cost of production per item then goes up but people aren't willing to pay that much for a N-Wing fighter. The profit margin can get really thin in these cases. This explains why these companies seem to go from very successful to out of business overnight.

Probably why they're spreading out some of the more "famous" ships like the 1701-A and TOS Connie later in the run. Smart move if that's the fate that befalls some of those companies.

Update: According to the list at Memory Alpha it looks like there are going to be 2 additional dedication plaques, one for Voyager and the other for Defiant, for later in the year. Not entirely sure if they're to be limited to a particular geographic region like some of the other extras.

Still ruminating over not being able to get either version of the Borg Cube or the shuttles. :(

In looking down that list, I noticed a reference to the USS Drake - ostensibly a member of the "Wambundu" class. According to Memory Beta, it looks like a chopped down stubby Galaxy, considered a "Light Cruiser". This could be the first ship they produce (aside from Drexler's NX-01 refit) that was officially mentioned, but never officially shown on-screen. Very intrigued by this.

When I met Alan Ruck about 9 years ago, I had him inscribe a line about Tuesday...

As for ships VS characters - simply put, outside of the big hero ships, 95% of the Trek ships have never (or super rarely) been done. Where as the characters, despite the size and format variations, have been done many times and many ways.

I understand wanting a collection of all of the main characters of the same size, or all the different species, but... considering Trek figure sales are very poor the last 10-15 years, they'd require likeness rights from every single actor which would increase the price much more over the ships, and 80% of them have been done... it's no wonder they're not on the list of things to do.

Oh and though INS/NEM never got 4.5 inch figures officially, Playmates did put out the crew in the FC uniforms in that scale at the end of the 90s/early 2000s before they gave up the license. Mostly as Target exclusives. But they do exist. They did the Borg Queen, Seven of Nine, and a few others in that ilk too. Sort of filled in the missing links at the end before they stopped doing the figures.

I'm confused, quote one would indicate from the obnoxious smiley at the end that you don't actually want photos because you'd get jealous. And then quote two indicates you do in fact want to see photos.

It has become a fairly boring thread over the last six months or so to be fair. Rather than posting pics of displays or which models people like or don't like, all I ever seem to read is...

"PayPal says they've charged me for the Vengenance"

"My AGT Enterprise still hasn't arrived"

"My *insert ship* arrived today" (no further comments on any actual aspect of it)

Well I'm still posting edits of the models all over Facebook but thanks to this sites weird image rules it makes it a pain posting them over here without resizing them :P I'll give it a go and see if it doesn't raise eyebrows because its too big (He says on a 2560x1440 monitor).

EDIT: WOAH Way too big. Can't we get an automatic resizer doodad on here?!

    EDIT 2: Take 2: [IMG]

I'm a little underwhelmed so far by the experience. -No welcome email or anything for that matter. Two weeks and I've not heard anything. I had to go to the website to verify that I'm actually enrolled. I hope this turns into a positive experience. I'm looking forward to receiving my first ship/subscription.

I knew they'd get around to the Norway sooner or later. The editor's said more than once that they'd get around to the last, and most elusive, of the "First Contact four". Since we know the original CG pattern was lost, it'd be interested to know what they used for references.

I was a little underwhelmed by the choice of the smaller Voth research ship. I don't have any particular problem with it, but there's few ships I would've liked to have seen first.

The Antares is a little more welcome. Always happy to get another Starfleet ship.

I figured they'd do the Phoenix at some point. Not much to say about that.

Not much to say about the Aquatic ship either, except that it makes me wonder if we'll see any more Xindi ships down the road. I would think Degra's ship and the Reptilian warship are the most likely candidates.

I'll be getting the Norway-Class and Phoenix definitely, the Antares and Gegen's ship I'll probably leave tbh. And I'll wait and see how the Xindi-Aquatic looks, could be be pretty cool. I'd rather have the Xindi-Reptillian though, can't wait for that.

And those last two take us in to 2016, it still feels like this years barely begun. Loooong time :)

I may get two of the Voth Research ships and repaint/mod one to be the Turei vessel.

Also, I have an extra DS9 and am going to try to take to lower pylons off and straitened them. Any ideas how I should go about taking them off and what glue/appoxy to reattach them?

    Beautiful work, Dac!

Here's my first try at this. I now wish my camera was better (and that I had tried a space shot instead) but a poor workman blames his tools. :)
