On his personal blog, John Jackson Miller has announced that he is writing an epic Star Trek novel trilogy for release in the latter half of 2016: Star Trek: Prey! Described as "a star-spanning Next Generation epic of the Federation and the Klingon Empire," the trilogy is tentatively scheduled for consecutive months starting in October.

Sounds great. Where are the people who want to read more about the Klingon Empire? I'm one of them.

Excellent news! I loved Takedown, it was a great full-length debut to Trek lit, and so I'm very much looking forward to this. :)

Ooh, looks cool! And since this trilogy is starting in October, might we infer from this that the TOS 50th anniversary trilogy is going to be July, August, September?

That certainly makes sense, with September being the actual anniversary month and thus lining up with the conclusion of the trilogy. While those dates haven't been announced (to my knowledge), were I a betting man I would say that's probably right.

Yes, that's correct. If I recall right from the panel today, it's called Legacies, and has installments by Greg Cox in July, David Mack in August, and Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore in September (though I may have the latter two books inverted).

I hope Miller is up to the challenge.

Based on his track record with Trek so far I doubt it. And since I've decided to not get every Trek book anymore, only those I'm really interested in or whose author I trust to deliver, that's already 1/3 of 2016's Trek novel output I most likely won't buy - this trilogy and DRG III's Ascendance.

Very curious. I really liked Takedown, and I've been curious what more Miller can do with Star Trek.

I enjoyed Absent Enemies and Takedown a great deal. Color me excited for Prey! I wonder whether it could have anything to do with the Hirogen?

I'm another one with some reservations. While I enjoyed both "Absent Enemies" and Takedown (the latter more than the former), neither quite had the epic feel that I'd want from a trilogy dealing with the Klingons in a major way.

On the other hand, a big project like a trilogy is always good news and I look forward to it. I'll almost certainly get the first book to see how it is and go from there.

Wow! 2 trilogies for the 50th anniversary is great news. I wonder if the TNG one by Miller will focus exclusively on TNG characters, or if Titan people (Riker/Troi) or any DS9/VOY people will show up. If the "Prey!" title refers at all to the Hirogen, i hope some Voyager people pop up. Either way, I can't wait to hear more about these trilogies :)

...and anything with the Klingons is always welcome. Maybe JJM will use some of KRAD's fleshed out Klingon characters like Klag...

^^^^ When I heard the title Prey, my first instinct was Hirogen. But with the focus being on Klingons, who knows?

This is excellent news! I love longer stories in general, and Miller being a newer voice getting such a prestige assignment is fantastic. I've loved every Trek or Wars book I've read of his; I expect this to be awesome.

:techman:I'm glad John Jackson Miller is writing a new Star trek trilogy for the 50th anniversary. I really enjoyed his novel Takedown.

I hope it isn't more Klingons threatening to leave the peace treaty stuff. I'd rather it be about the Federation and Klingons working together.
