I haven't read the comic so I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that it was Mudd's daughter?

I really like how they sort of make Khan understandable and likeable that you forget he is a genocidal maniac until Old Spock reminds you of it haha..

I also recall someone mentioning that an early draft of the Wrath of Khan script had Janet Wallace in what would eventually be revised to become the Carol Marcus part.

I would really like for Khan to have said that Marcus ordered facial reconstruction surgery and voice modification. That would explain how he looks and sounds pretty easily. The accent....well he just likes the accent and keeps it.

Yeah, but the nice thing is that you don't have to read any of what Khan says or does as insincere or at odds with the earlier scenes. He lies about his past to manipulate Kirk. He may cloak the more dangerous aspects of his character. That said, is any of what he tells Kirk about Marcus's behavior, or any of his expressed feelings of loyalty to his followers, exposed as dishonest? He tells those truths that are useful to his goals.

All of that would have been a distraction and kind of a WTF? to a big part of the audience. I'm glad they just rolled with it.

It's funny isn't it, I'm not a TWOK fan but adored Montalban's Khan. Sometimes it's hard to parse when you saw these movies/shows so long ago before your head was full of so many other space operas. I agree that was a great scene in the cell. And I agree that that Montalban's lines could be seen as cheesy. I think I've just had years of emotional response to Montalban and only two viewings of Cumberbatch (and I was never a Sherlock fan).

Just watched it. Was a solid A. I thought the twist on Khan was well done. The death of Kirk was somewhat shocking, as it was in 1982. I think they have laid the groundwork for the next movie. The cast is doing well in their roles, especially Karl Urban. He looks and acts like DeForest Kelley more and more. Good job JJ.

Nope. I'd be more team Spock or McCoy anyhow. Actually, Pike was the one after whom I lusted. *sigh*

Thanks regarding the Mudd reference. I feel better though, as my husband missed the reference too!

Karl Urban is unbelievable, I cracked up when Kirk gave him orders to stop using metaphors. And when he was flirting with Marcus.

You know, at the end when Khanberbatch is clutching the helm of the ruined Vengeance, enraged and flying it toward Starfleet he's the very image of MontalKhan in his last moments aboard the Reliant.

I think this was the first time we got a good mix of "out there" space adventure and "Earth bound" stuff. I liked that they took us from an alien world to a club scene. And on a side note, gotta love Scotty's gaudy outfit.

A while back, I actually suggested that this movie might be called "Star Trek Vengeance".

    I missed it too.

I really liked Harry Mudd's daughter. Great character. Probably more fascinating that her dad.

The ending credits list Kirk's parents. When were they in the movie?

During the black screen before Kirk wakes up, you hear George, his mom and Pike from the first movie.

Voices, possibly, during Kirk's emergence from his coma at the end.

Nice transition there, too, from the Spock/Khan fight.

I liked seeing the model of the NX-01. I'm still waiting to see a Denoblian, though.
