Wasn't really intended to be indistinguishable from the model. That would require more time and effort than is warranted for what is essentially a concept "sketch."

Finally got the time to resume work on the model this weekend. Using my recent paintover as a guide, I've added most of the detailing around the aft booster engines, though I still have to freeze the SubD objects, optimize them and do quite a bit of additional work in this area. I'm hoping to get most of that done tomorrow.

Just for kicks, I decided to do an exploded view to show how many different parts are involved here:

I'd say the model is now about 85% finished and I'm hoping to finish it up within the next couple of weeks.

The work in here is amazing and inspiring. It's also a bit humbling for us novices. :)

Awesome, I love all the separate parts. :) I like to do things that way, too... so many models I download and look at are modeled as one part. Can't wait to see it finished. :)

man, NASA is really slackin' off if those are all the parts needed for a super-awesome starship.

Give NASA a break. It's not completely their fault. Their recent budget cuts has been a killer. I would say that Lockheed Martin hasn't done anything because they don't have enough of an incentive to bother, but the rumors go that they have been building trans-atmospheric craft for the U.S. Air Force in secret. Craft that are super fast, and super secret.

Pffft, NASA has not impressed me for years. And considering they have the damned Brookings Report, which I hate with passion, I have no respect for NASA to begin with.

More booster engine detailing. I've also optimized most of these parts and the polycount has actually gone down since the last set of renderings.

My own research, and it's right there page 215, I believe. It pretty much says, "hide anything we find from them, they'll go crazy otherwise" So, that makes me have no respect for the all mighty NASA.

Anyhow, I look forward to the next images.

I'm not normally a stickler about staying on-topic, but I'm having a really hard time seeing what bitching about NASA has to do with my thread. :vulcan:

Man, those engines are fantastic. I can't wait to see this thing moving around. :D

Slightly off topic, but is the Polaris film something that will be publicly released when it's done, or is it an actual show pitch?

Can't wait to see some more. :)

As I understand, it will be an open release on the web.

We haven't really started to address distribution yet; there are a number of possibilities. But it is a stand-alone short film rather than a pilot-presentation.
