So where were George and Winona Kirk in STID?

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Watching the closing credits of STID, both Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Morrison are listed in the cast credits as playing George and Winona Kirk. Which raises the question where the hell were they?

In voice only.

Right after Spock knocks out Khan we here their voices from the first movie ever so breifly before Kirk regains consciousness.

Does that really justify being mentionend in the credits this way? The voices were barely noticable and there was a whole section for voice actors during the end credits.

Maybe they were in a scene that got deleted in the last minute?

Why would Kirk hear his father's voice? Seems kinda odd, since they were never in the same place at the same time...

The shuttles record and keep logs of all communications. He could have listened to those, from his mother's shuttle that escaped, at some point in his life.

There is probably a SAG rule stating that directors can't use someone's image or voice without paying them residuals and giving them screen credit.

You don't think that Kirk has heard this recording of his father's last words? This was the last thing Winona heard from her husband, she probably has the recording of it and played it for her kids. . . it's probably part of the Kirk family lore. . .

Enterprise's finale "These Are the Voyages" would have you think these poor people have cameras recording them 24/7:ack:

Credits for reused material in a movie sequel can be specified in an actor's contract, despite the amount that ends up being used.

Nah, with the number of errors that crept in, it was definitely a less-then-accurate holo simulation.

I'm sure he's heard it before, of course. Just if it's one of those 'life flashing before your eyes' sorta moments, seems odd that it would contain portions that you weren't actively involved in, and only remember second-hand.

Suppose you can justify it if you think his thought was "I died saving my ship, just like Dad", which may have been the intent...

I don't necessarily think so; his father is famous for this act of heroism. . . this is what he's supposed to be living up to (and not at the beginning of ST09). . . he's heard this recording all of his life. . . probably on his birthday. . .I would think that this moment would be ingrained in him. . .so it makes sense to me that he would hear it during a Near Death Experience.
