Both of those sound a bit intriguing, but we need more details.

I was thinking it sounded an awful lot like Wild, Wild West

Hey at least they threw in something novel with the steampunk aspect rather than making them detectives in contemporary New Orleans. I wonder just how far the steampunk aspect will go.

Is he a TWD fan? maybe he should join that show, as an insane redneck badass. That would be a fun departure for him.

Or - Steampunk Huck Finn? Hmm, I have the vague feeling I read he's originally from Louisiana...

Neither of those really sounded that interesting, until the last few words. I am intrigued by the steam punk and Dorian Gray mentions. Neither of those are things you see on TV much these days.

Wouldn't be the first time Tom Sawyer worked as a detective.

    Blake's 7 remake now in SyFy's clutches.

I don't really care one way or the other about the remake, but the odds are pretty high that the existing fans will hate whatever SyFy does with the show, so for their sake I hope it doesn't go to series. :D

The Dirty Dozen in space sounds like a good idea for a new series, but they should just go with that original concept, and maybe do something with a Tarantino retro feel to it, with a war-movie/video game emphasis on action.

But I'm still chiefly rooting for the RHW series. Nice to see continuing interest from SyFy in developing space opera series. Someday we might even see one of them...

The other thread in July mentioned they was shopping it.
Blake's 7 reboot back on again

very cool to see 13 episode commitment by SyFy. Yes I am happy to see Space Opera being committed to at the network.

The Dirty Dozen in outer space was exactly the words used by Terry Nation when he pitched the idea to the BBC execs. So I do think they're using the original concept.

"Syfy is thrilled to have Roger Blake take on the evil Dr. Servalan and her mad science army of flying sharks, giant snakes and space twisters in this new exciting reimagining. We are excited to have veteran actors John Schneider as Blake, C. Thomas Howell as Avon and pop sensation Tiffany as Dr. Servalan."

Her hair's not dark enough for Servalan. Syfy has standards y'know.

Same here. I've never seen Blake's 7, but I cringe in sympathy.

I'm a little nervous SyFy may water it down, but, I'm just as nervous someone may swing too far in the other direction and make NuBSG look "Unicorns and Rainbows" in comparison and I also don't want to see it turned into a True Blood type Orgy (A little sex is fine, but, there's no need to have multiple sex scenes every episode)

I know thats where it comes from. But The Dirty Dozen, not Blakes 7, is the original concept I was referring to. So no, they're not doing what I described. In fact, what theyre really doing is an open question...

The big thing now seems to be remakes in name only, where the showrunner keeps the name, ignores everything else and just goes galumphing off in whatever direction he likes. Sometimes that can be a good thing - Ron Moore's BSG, Bryan Fuller's take on The Munsters - so I think the one thing we can expect, is that this show will bear little resemblance to the original.

SyFy is more likely to go for violence rather than premium cable style sex, though. And I think there could be an audience for a space opera series that has the feel of a video game.

Yeah, calling nuBSG "a remake in name only" doesn't make sense. It was a remake, a reimagining, and a reboot, all.

I don't care about Blake's 7 either, but like with original Battlestar Galactica - another show I'm not a big fan of - I think the basic idea of the show could make for a good series.

So I'd actually be quite interested to see if this goes to series and if it's any good.

There's simply no way a show on Syfy is going to have graphic sex or anywhere near the league of sweaty naked bodies you'd find in every other HBO series. At most you'd get the coy sexuality of something like Farscape.

...though going for an incredibly grim, NuBSG tone isn't out of the question.

Yea, didn't mean SyFy would go sexy with it. SyFy will likely water it down, someone else getting hold of it could go too sexy, or too depressing
