According to the wikipedia entry on Quantum of Solace, Marc Forster was considered and chosen because he happens to be one of Daniel Craig's personal favorite filmmakers.

They said the same about Michelle Yeoh from Tomorrow Never Dies (Olga Kurylenko's personal favorite Bond girl) , and look what happened. :(

If Daniel Craig is picking directors, hopefully we can get some Matthew "Layer Cake" Vaughn going on.

Great, great, GREAT continuation of the story from Casino... Gritty, hard-edged and a wild ride to boot...

I don't understand the whole "There's no plot" complaint about this movie... There's an overall reaching plot that is larger than the movie itself.. This is part of a story... The beginning of the James Bond legacy.. This is the backstory of how he became the man he is.

The theme didn't bother me a bit, either..

My only complaint is that we didn't get the Star Trek trailer that I had been led to believe we were going to get.

That would not be too difficult considering Sony is responsible for the international distribution of Layer Cake, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace.

There is already a working relationship.

I have decided to think of this movie, not as a sequel to Casino Royale, but rather as an epilogue. It makes the film sit better for some reason.

I saw it tonight. I thought it was quite good, although I had to sit quite close to the screen so I probably missed some details. I thought the story was pretty good, considering it was basically the second half (or third third) of Casino Royale.

I guess I really consider it a middle chapter.. An "Empire Strikes Back" if you will.. I think there needs to be a logical conclusion to wrap up the Quantum group.. There's got to be some end game here when the group is eradicated or it simply becomes an everpresent force a la SPECTRE.

I would say it was good but not great. The action was a little too much for a Bond film IMO. But hey it's supposed to have a lot of action, it's a bond film. Craig could end up surpassing Connery as the best James Bond ever. He's just a simply a bad ass.

Good enough action film. Bad Bond film. There wasn't enough in it that made Bond unique. Where was the jokes, the seduction? You could've put Jack Bauer, Jason Bourne, Jonas Blane, Frank Martin, etc, etc. into this movie and it wouldn't have changed much.

Also, I don't think there was much of a plot. Bond just went around killing a lot of people and stumbled upon Greene by dumb luck and not by skill. Greene and the toupee dude both sucked as villians, but Colonel Medrano worked. I wished he had been the main bad guy.

Could someone explain to me what exactly Greene's plan was? Why was it important to steal the water? Did he think water will become the new oil? I didn't get it. Nor did I get why he continued to let Camille live? Or why Bond left Ms. Fields, who didn't even get to say her great first name-Strawberry-to her fate?

There was too little resolution in this film. What happened to Bond's search for Mr. White? How exactly are Greene and White connected? Was White working for Greene? Vice versa? I guess this is all leading to a third film, but Quantum of Solace did a bad job setting that up. And to be honest, I don't think we need a third film covering his revenge for Vesper's murder. By throwing her necklace in the snow, it symbolized that he was letting her go, even though I don't know why he did that, and perhaps not just gave it to M.

I don't think the Quantum group was really fleshed out enough to be all that interesting or different than what's come before. I don't care if he brings them down or not.

I saw this film, and never really being a James Bond fan, actually liked it. It wasn't the best, but I didn't care for the bond girl much. She wasn't that attractive to me.

I don't know how the reaction to this will be but I was watching the beginning of Die Another Day last night, and thought that that one scene was a lot better than any scene in QOS. Nice mix of action and intregue that wasn't confusing, and then you got into the theme track (Which I will say Madonna's is a lot better than the one for the current movie) and it just felt more like a Bond Film than QOS. I still thought QOS was average, but I couldn't help but think of the striking differences.

In lots of developing countries, private water companies buy up the rights to national water supplies, and are able to gouge the country's citizens\government and make quite a bit of money off it all.

I put on Casino Royale yesterday after getting home from QoS and, wow, what a glaring difference between the two movies. It really showed how bad QoS is.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said. This film was definitely leading to a 3rd, even though it really didn't need to. They could have fleshed out the story and covered both Quantum AND Bond's revenge in one film. That said, this film more or less sorted out Bond's revenge for Vesper's death, so that hopefully in the next film he can just be 007 the Agent, instead of the heartbroken man.

I will say, though, that I thought the ending to Casino Royale resolved the Vesper story rather well, and that having Bond acting out of vengeance in this one kind of negated that ending.

Seems to me like this movie was made to tell us that Quantum wasn't up to any good. In the other Bond movies we knew SPECTRE was no good. But since SPECTRE can't be used because of legal reasons they want a new evil group to fight against for the next how ever many movies. This movie was meant to tell more about them and I'm sure we'll get more information about them in future movies as well.

The only thing this movie told me about them was that they exist and they're not very nice.

    Not exactly brilliant revelations.

Yep. I went with "Below Average". There was no way this could top Casino Royale, and it looks like no one even tried to.

IMO there hasn't been an actual good Bond villain since Goldeneye.

I don't have time to read all the comments, but while I enjoyed the movie, it was pretty much a series of chases. Somewhere during the boat chase I thought "we just need an air chase now"....and there was one. Car, foot, boat and air...and more foot....

The water utility plot? That's it? A scheme to make Bolivians pay too much for water? And if this had been a Moore era film, the damn would've burst and stuff...instead the water is incidental.

Also, the girl covered in oil was lame. Bringing back Mathis to kill him off was lame, too, he could've been kept around for the future.

I couldn't care less if we ever see Q or Moneypenny.

I am annoyed the classic Bond scope opening was moved to the end. That was one thing YOU DON'T FUCK WITH.

But I like seeing Daniel Craig kick people in the face.
