Cool, and I agree that you've got a good lineage going here, too. :)

It took two tries to get the nacelles right. I had to slim them down about five percent and add a slight half degree taper which also negthened them visually.

So now we have something familiar and yet different.

I've been thinking of this as the Discovery-class and some sistership names that come to mind are: Atlantis, Challenger, Vanguard, Endeavor, Eagle, La Frontier, Valiant, Republic and Polaris.

Hmmm, it also occurs to me how easy it would be to make an FJ style destroyer/scout variant of this design.

This is awesome... We should put yours in a side by side scene with the Enterprise concept I did. Not to steal your show, I just think it would be neat to see these ships together.

I have always liked the idea of a small impulse deck at the base of the saucer's dorsal. That would be nice to see in the Federation refit dreadnought Aridas did with a longer refit secondary hull.

    Gettin' in some nacelle detailing.

I gotta say that often before I get into the colouring these renders can look like model kits.

Looking great! I really like the stepdown in the nacelle design. That aft view is just gorgeous.

Forgive me, I feel like I should know - what program are you using?

Neat. I should give that a try. Thanks!

I started with it about a year and a half ago. I found it a bit frustrating at first, but persevered and got evermore proficient with it. You're always learning and trying new things and learning new tricks. And each model is a bit better than the previous one. I can now consider revisiting earlier projects because of what I've learned since.

In school we used the expensive stuff, but obviously not wanting to fork out cash for that, I went with Blender. On the whole, not a bad program, but the controls were a bit annoying.

It's interesting how learning different programs or different versions of the same program (i.e. Illustrator) can make one want to go back and revisit earlier projects, isn't it?

My first project was my TAS scoutship design. I think it came out okay, but I know what things I struggled with and things I'm not wholly satisfied with. But knowing what I know now I find myself planning to revisit that design and build it again with what should be superior results.

I must say part of the appeal for me is how it has a ring of familiarity and yet it remains different. I can envision this ship as being the first commands of Robert April and Christopher Pike before the Enterprise and her sisterships were built. It also manages to look less evolved than the TOS era yet without looking clunky.

If we assume the saucer rim to be roughly the same thickness as the Enterprise then it's clear this is a smaller ship. The saucer is smaller in diameter, the support hull is a bit smaller the dorsal is shorter and the nacelles aren't nearly as long.

I'm assuming a large combined engineering section for the impulse and warp drives in that unit, so the secondary hull is dedicated to labs and the hanger deck?
