didn't like the sound of that. Whenever
that suggestion was made he usually suspected
that it would involve doing something that
would embarrass him in front of the
entire crew. Early on, after defeating Nero,
the Enterprise crew had gotten in the
habit of nodding off at their posts.
The ship didn't go to Red Alert
any more. Kirk didn't want to scare
his friends and fellow officers by making
any harsh loud noises or blinking lights
that would be too distracting when they
were dreaming of happier times, like when
they all took shore leave on the
newly discovered pleasure planet.
