them in order to be able to
entice them into mauling everything within eyesight.
The Klingons themselves had learned over time
to use caution whenever they came within
a few meters of any targ. The
rule of thumb was to count the
number of fingers on the hands of
anyone running away from the nearest targ
pit. It was rather common for the
bookmakers to take bets on every way
that could be thought of to make
a targ attack. It didn't take much
effort for the targs to start biting
so the odds remained unusually low. Unless
the targs were implanted with special devices
that would induce heart attacks randomly, thereby
rendering many of them harmless and easy
for the bookmakers to make fast money,
something that most of them were concerned
