    Hello to all,

I was wondering concerning the new movie of ST with Spock in the Past and the time line.

Considering that Young Spock...(Quinto) is going on to be the Spock we now know and love in the TV series and Movies and the Shall we say Original Older SPOCK in the same Time-Line Does this not cause a conflict in the Line?

I know Vulcan Philosophy is basically based on SURAK and his teaching...BUT...Doesn't The Old Spock findinng a suitable planet for the vulcan to Re-Habitate and Continue their Existence...Would that not make SPOCK (Past-Leonard Nimoy) the new founder of Vulcan Philiosophies and existances.

Continuing to STNG -- Spock on ROMULUS, while there sais he saw a similiarilty to Vulcans etc...and remained to Teach the philosophies etc.. Could it be His influence in the Past and the Situation with NERO and the time travels??

Thanks As we say in SCi-FI anything is Possible.??

    Phil Montreal Quebec Canada.

^ The new timeline established in ST XI exists alongside the old. It doesn't replace the original timeline.

Nope, both Spocks will forge their own paths in this new realty. The Spock in the older reality will follow the path we've seen, ending with his attempt to save Romulas and winding up in the new reality.

Nope. Vulcans will continue to follow the Philosophies of Surak as they have for millennia. the Elder Spock has not set himself up as the founder of a new philosophy.

We've no idea if the Spock of this reality will take up the mission of Reunification as the Elder Spock did. The Vulcans and Romulans of this reality are already on a different path than the ones we've seen in the older reality.

Well, the Vulcans are certainly on a new path. The Romulans could well remain the isolationists they've almost always been shown to be.

If we remember how the Vulcans acted in Enterprise, we must assume they are considering "new" Vulcan to be the only Vulcan that ever existed.

"Time travel is impossible because we say it is"

    Revisionist history, it's logical.

But those Vulcan did not have their planet destroyed by a time traveling Romulan.

ENT Vulcans were pre New Vulcan. And pre Old Vulcan in prime timeline. ENT history is the history of both time lines.

^ Exactly, so the Vulcan attitude we saw in ENT could still prevail.

"This is the same planet we've always lived on"

    Kirk scratches his head, "but..."

The odd thing about nuVulcan is they are so similar to ENT Vulcans. I'm thinking that the replaced/displaced may become isolated again. What would be cool in the sequel there was a follow up on them, like the crew helping the displaced Vulcans. I don't know....

Denying the existance of time travel is probably based on science rather than being stubborn. The destruction Vulcan is a verifiable fact.

But the alternate Romulans are different than those the the Prime timeline, in so far as being not as isolationist.

nuChristopher Pike recognized Nero quickly as a Romulan, something the prime universe Pike of the same year wouldn't have been able to do.

No, that would make prime Spock their real estate agent.

Captain Pike indicated to Nero that he could contact the Romulan leadership and arrange a conference.

Again, something the prime universe Pike of the same year wouldn't have been able to do. Perhaps stemming from the earlier Narada attack, or through other differences in the alternate universe, communication between the Federation and the Romulan Empire were possible in the year 2258. Pike's statement left no doubt that he could have accomplish the communication.

Nothing's ever been said in the Prime timeline that there was no way of contacting the romulan government should the need arise.

Romulans were little seen, but both sides would be silly to cut all communication ties after the war.

Even during the cold war the Soviet union and the USA's leaders were able to contact each other should the need arise - that's probably the biggest counterpart to it in our reality.

Something changed... as Pike was able to recognize Nero as a Romulan. In 2265, Spock said that neither side had visual contact with the other... hence the surprise when we see the Romulan commander in Balance of Terror.

But they had had visual contact with the crew of the Narada, so that's what changed...

Problem is... nowhere is it mentioned that these are Romulans that attacked the Kelvin.

They only had the readings from their sensors to identify who was attacking them.

So this attack could've been carried out by renegade Vulcans, a Vulcan-oid species or possibly the Rigelians who have a similar make-up.

Plus the attack took place near the Klingon border.

but the technology of the narada was identified. notice how kirks first reaction after hearing about the thunderstorm in space was to ask uhura if the ship that destroyed the klingon vessels was romulan.

nero changed the federations knowledge about romulans.

Narada being recognized as Romulan in 2258 - The Narada appeared, and probably had some recognizable energy signatures, or some Romulan text, that may have been compared to historical archives of the first Romulan War.

It is also possible that after that event, the Federation may have opened a dialog with the Romulans, and there may have even been an attempted peace treaty.

Between 2233 and 2258, TOS established events do not directly apply.

Or with Nero weakening both the Federation and the Klingons, they could see an opportunity.
