Nope. And I'll bet whatever low-level White House employee is responsible for the website got a giggle out of it. :)

Please, yours is much more darling than mine.

Same places they do now? Why do you assume that relations between America an the newly sovereign states would be acrimonious?

While no State has ever left the country, some American territories have left to form new nations, and they continue to have quite good relations with America.

American TV plays over large sections of the world, why would it stop wanting revenue from advertising?

I would imagine that the sport franchises would remain with their present cities. That is where they have their stadiums and their fan base.

With a hypothedically lower business tax rate and more reasonable regulations, why would they have no American manufacturing? American businesses would flock to the new and superior business/manufacturing environment.

No different than jobs going "over seas." Except it is former Americans doing the jobs.

You mean of course the public lands, the citizen of those area being the public. And it being their land to start with.

    :)

Jobs go over seas because the hourly rate in those countries is far below U.S. rates. I doubt any seceding states would suddenly lower those rates to be competitive.

Do you really think that if one or more states left the Union because they wanted to be petulant, whiny brats, the rest of the US would be happy to let them go and maintain normal relations?

If they want to act like children, they should be treated like children.

It seems most of the states have petitions for secession, even Massachusetts, Maryland, and Vermont. However I found a petition that looks quite promising.

    WH link

Only 300 signatures so far, though. :(

    They did so with consent.

That's the issue right here and why it might be acrimonious.

Talking a few people the other day, mentioned that if Tennessee was brain-dead enough to seceded that I'd pack up the family and move up north. Got called a "traitor to the southern people", I said "thank you". I've got people now refusing to talk to me unless I sign the petition and agree to support "The New Confederacy"-- granted, that just reduced the stupid in my life quite a bit.

I can guarantee there's a few good 'ole boys stroking off to the idea of a new Confederacy.

I'm not saying they aren't empty but as each dot meant 100 or more votes for each candidate that would mean potentially 99 votes times number of candaites so there could be 596 voters with 6 candidates each receiving 99 votes. Not discounting those who decide not to vote.

It's over 800 now. The way signatures are rolling in, I think we can get this one adopted! :D

Isn't that what's being sought here?

If you go back the the original petition, it isn't a declaration of war. It's asking to be allowed to withdrawal.

If this were to be done, it can be done peacefully.

In time all (well most) children mature and leave the home they grew up in, they strike out into the world and do the best they can.

    Many prosper in this venture.

    :)

I don't think it'll happen peacefully, but they're, of course, welcome to petition their government for redress of the grievances they believe they have.

The Government is then, in turn, welcome to look at it, laugh, and say "get over it you sore losers!" and then wad up the petition and toss it into the trash.

Considering Louisiana was purchased from the french, I think if they want to secede they should pay fare market value for the land.

I don't support the idea, but I do think that there could be hypothetical reasons why a state should be allow to secede.

I could learn to like an independent Louisiana if we were recognized and on good terms with the US. We'd have our 12-mile territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone. Then there's the wells on land, all our pipelines, refineries and other petroleum plants, plus Access to the Mississippi and the Intracoastal Canal. I think we could potentially do okay as far as business goes.

It all hinges on a not just peaceful, but friendly split. It wouldn't happen for many, many reasons. Still, it's not a nightmare.

Will they leave peacefully if they don't get to take all that land in their state that is owned by the federal government when they go?

Even so, I can only think of 2 territories who left to become nations. Philippines and Cuba. We're 50/50 there.
